There's another downside to all this, which is that if you happen to be male and just want to talk to people who sound interesting or like-minded, and aren't after "camming" or "cyber" or all the rest, you're automatically up against all the same defenses those interesting people need to put up to escape the drooling hordes of penis-pic-senders.

I can only imagine that anyone female-sounding who ever posts anything even vaguely titillating probably gets dozens of PMs a day, and even if all you want to do is say hi and maybe talk to someone that sounds cool, it's still very difficult to stand out enough from the throng to get someone's attention and convey that you're not one of them.

I agree. I have found that these boards here at Lit, and the two BDSM forums in particular, are a good place for finding out about people and for them to find out about me. In time I have found out who I feel safe and open with and who I try to avoid. I do very very little PMing and IMing, using the open threads to interact, but then I am a little reclusive - in spite of all the pics I post - really, I am.

I must say I'm impressed again!

Speaking just for myself, I can say that whatever compliments I get on my looks, they rarely change my internal self view, though they are nice!

Since coming to Lit, I have improved my own self view in numerous ways and that surprises me. I'm much happier about my body in particular due to the exercise threads and the pic threads. Of course I also feel more comfortable with my dirty, kinky mind and well, I'll call it my essential self, as well.

I have in the past sent my picture when asked. And as several people mentioned earlier there the conversation ended. I'm not Angelina Jolie but I have been told I'm beautiful. Pretty is in the eye of the beholder, I know, but not even a thank-you. I was told when I complained about this that the people who ask for pictures are assholes! Actually what I was told is that all men are assholes...So...now I ask for pictures first thing!!! Actually it depends...If they ask for a picture then so will I. Insisting on getting a picture from them first. That way you can weed out the actual assholes from the nice ones. No picture, no picture...Really in this it is usually better not to get a picture. I have had better relationships with the folks I have never seen.
