Smaller Government? I think we've learned that it only goes one way, the gov't gets larger.

Taxes? If you didn't make 333K last year, you didn't get all that much from the tax cut.

So why?

I can't understand why any one votes for either party.......We should vote Independent and maybe the partys will start to listen to the people, instead of the special interest groups

The masses won't do it, thus it's pretty much a wasted vote.

I never could understand why a man who is a week away from chasing a 'possum for dinner could call himself a Republican. But here in the South, it's more of a race thing than anything.

One word

Riff hit the nail on the head. The #1 reason poor people vote Republican (when they do-- many don't vote at all) is: racism. Since Nixon, the Republican Party has deliberately followed a "Southern strategy" of appealing to white racists, through code words such as "crime" and "welfare queens."

The Democratic Party, which originated as the party of Southern slaveowners, is hardly any better.

You trying to make this into a serious thread?

Redwave? Serious? Well, no one takes him seriously but the newbies who haven't gotten totally disgusted with his thorough self-delusion.

and the seventh seal was broken by quoting and replying to the commie cocksucker... now I gotta park the car in the garage to keep the fiery toads raining from screwing up my wax job

That's easy.......hope, under a Democratic Congress and President there is none. The economics' stay the same, which works well for the rich but is virtually hopeless for the poor in hopes of "getting ahead."

It's more of a reputation thing than anything else, if you dig deep you'll find little change between the parties in non War administrations. However, those are the administrations that are glamorized.

The better question is why aren't the "poor" more informed? Which is the answer to the question "Why do the poor vote Republican?"

But what the hell do I know...........I'm the Neanderthal of Lit.

Actually, a more controversial question. Is Spinaroonie holding a hot dog in his, er, stick-hand? Does this mean he is obsessed with phalluses? Why?

I know you've been around long enough to see me explain that thing a dozen times.

You wish!

You wish, Killer Muffin. Here's an excerpt from Bob Dylan's classic song, "Only a Pawn in Their Game":

A South politician preaches to the poor white man,
"You got more than the blacks, don't complain.
You're better than them, you been born with white skin," they explain.
And the Negro's name
Is used it is plain
For the politician's gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.

The deputy sheriffs, the soldiers, the governors get paid,
And the marshals and cops get the same,
But the poor white man's used in the hands of them all like a tool.
He's taught in his school
From the start by the rule
That the laws are with him
To protect his white skin
To keep up his hate
So he never thinks straight
'Bout the shape that he's in
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.

From the poverty shacks, he looks from the cracks to the tracks,
And the hoof beats pound in his brain.
And he's taught how to walk in a pack
Shoot in the back
With his fist in a clinch
To hang and to lynch
To hide 'neath the hood
To kill with no pain
Like a dog on a chain
He ain't got no name
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.

It was true in the Sixties when Dylan wrote it. It's just as true today.

Maybe it's his stick-figure.

Cat got your tongue?

What's the matter, Killer Muffin? Cat got your tongue? Want to try to say that no one takes Bob Dylan seriously?
:p

Jeez, Red, I didn't say racism wasn't taken seriously. I said you weren't taken seriously. You're not even a radical. You're completely off of the political spectrum and somewhere out near an idealized Utopia populated by shiny happy and utterly non-existant people.

It's a sad fact, Redwave, the only place Lit people actually take you seriously is in regards to your poetry.

Please Red........

Want to try to say that no one takes Bob Dylan seriously?

It's a song popularize by a 60's-70's drugged up rocker (whom I very much enjoy), but your giving even what it stands for way to much credit. And really, it's hardly the reason the Nation does anything the way it does.

The days of political sway created by "free love", "music" or any other uninformed medium has been over for 20 years.

1) Race
2) Lack of education
3) Democrats are about spreading the wealth around, which is a horrible idea to those who are upper lower class, earning their money with their sweat.
and the Number One (or 4) reason is:

Republicans are conservative. They like White Christians Males and White Christian Males like them. Poor people love them some religion.
