I just don't understand all of the self promotion. It's disillusioning. I just don't understand the pay-off.

Should I just chalk it up to the fact that we live in a poor world and people have to get their just where they can?

If you mean why do people advertise themselves in their search for a partner here, then the answer is because that's a large part of what Lit is about. Perhaps not it's original intent, but definitely a large part of the way it's evolved. No, not the GB, thank G-d. But even here we have the sporadic "here's why I'd be such a great lover!" thread.

Now, the fact is that you may not like it. I may find it sorta hokey, myself. So you and I don't participate in it (along with all of the others who don't care to join in).

Conversely, there are people who are very serious in their search for someone special (or just for someone to fuck, to be blunt) and that's fine for them. So long as they don't encroach on you, why should you encroach on them?

Or, the short version, why piss in someone else's Wheaties?
