Then I noticed your line says... "on some rock, OFF the coast of the Pacific Ocean."

Maybe you've got something. If the rock is off the coast OF THE OCEAN, then wouldn't it be somewhere up on shore?

If the rock was off the coast of California (or some other land mass) then it would be in the water.

Starfish, it is a miniscule difference, and I'm sure it doesn't matter.

I haven't seen the image all this refers to but simply on the description I read it both ways as well. To me a rock can be in the sea or on the land.

This one I would say is in the water otherwise it would be "ON THE COAST OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN".
