whatever happened to the entrepreneurial spirit?

seems to me more people are willing to blame some supposed man for holding them back, when they aren't willing to take the proverbial bull by the horns and create a job for themselves and possible others.

Comfort factor...I am comfortable where I am. Why should I take a chance and mess it all up?

Or

Fear factor...I wouldn't do that...what if I fail? I'd be broke and in the poor house forever. Better the evil I know than that which I don't.

Cause its a true pain in the ass! speaking as someone who does work for themselves and has others working for me as well. But in the long and short of things I like it alright means I can take a day off when I want to and if my child or man need me I am outa here. :nana:

Over 90 percent of new businesses fail. I don't usually complain about my job - the last job I had was the best in my life. I would still be working there if they hadn't laid off over half their people (and they are still laying them off).

I have considered a number of biz ideas since I have the time and the talent, but it is hard finding something that:

1) Is original and doesn't already have a dozen other people already competing for a shrinking market.

2) Will actually make money in the period of time I have before winding up on the street.

3) I can accomplish with the resources I have. Getting venture capital is almost impossible right now.

I've had a few ideas from time to time in my life that if I had followed through on them I would be making some good money. Back in the late 80's I was thinking of starting something like HotJobs.com or Monster.com, but I was working and couldn't devote the time to it and the internet wasn't really there enough to make it feasible. I've had a few ideas that others have eventually had too and made into money making propositions - but right now I am still searching.
