Forgive me for injecting a serious note into this discussion, but 'prostitution', the so called, 'worlds oldest profession', has been a focal point for the intellectual elite artists and writers as far back as history records.

There are sluts and there will always be sluts, who find being a mattress back the easiest way to make their beans, so what, who cares and why even dwell upon the subject?

But the low life, Hedonistic, Left Bank Bacchanalian addicts have always been a burden on society.

To glorify them in Art and Literature speaks volumes about the writers and painters of the past, but little of society in general.

What I said was factual. Although I should have said there is greater than a 50% chance they married a prostitute. I have friends that were in the Navy and told me stories of the Philippines and Thailand.

Sailors go to bars to meet girls, and drink. If they want to take the girl out of the bar, they have to pay a bar fine (Hmmm. Wonder why). Make no mistake that these women are are in the sex business. And when the Sailors are out to sea, their "wives" are almost always unfaithful.

These are poor nations, and marring a Sailor is like hitting the lottery.

Everyone makes their own choices and people marry for a variety of different reasons. To some people, great skill in the bedroom is something to be prized.

You seem to think that all women in the Phillipines and Thailand are prostitutes...not the case, not even close. While there's no shortage, the "prostitutes" are only a small part of each society. There are many well educated, smart and financially independent women from those countries that are not prostitutes...it's actually a very insulting thing for you to say, it's like saying "All women from San Diego are prostitutes because there's a Navy base there."

While I haven't been to Thailand, I have been to the Phillipines several times and have met some wonderful, classy women on my trips. There's a downtown business area in Manilla that is little different from downtown Boston or DC (except for the tropical foliage) and it's filled with professional men and women just like any other major city.

Fair enough. Although I've never been to Thailand my Aunt lived there for several years doing work for the US Govt and all the Thai men and women I've met are just wonderful. They have a rich and varied culture and I find most people from there to be fascinating, personable and warm. I've never met anyone from there who mentioned or admitted being a prostitute, but I've read about what you're referring to above.

I know a guy from the US who wasn't very attractive (never had a GF here), but went on a music tour and met a number of women in eastern Europe. He thought that maybe there was a chance for him to get married and so he contracted with a group to help. Eventually, he got married to a Russian girl and was married for a couple years, but it didn't work out. During the course of concert tours, he met another without aid from an agency, dated her for a while, got married and has been happily married for at least 6 years now. That worked out well for him. He's a peach and treats her like a queen. She has the same respect for him and they seem to be truly happy. I don't think she was a prostitute, but I'll never ask and will never know for sure, but I know that that the area where both women came from was desperately poor.....but I know that it has a happy ending.

No my friends and I never did that. We saw women who worked through bars like that, but... I never saw any American men looking for wives this way.

I work in military mental health and spent three years as the flight commander over Air Force family advocacy (marital therapy, domestic violence, and abuse treatment) while I was stationed in Asia. I've seen infidelity that would turn you green in the face. Some of it involved Asian wives, most did not. Most involved American men cheating on their wives (Asian or not) while they were deployed, TDY in Korea or another base, or simply with someone they met at work.... while their wives were home raising their kids.

Again, I've suspected zero Asian wives I've met professionally or personally to be prostitutes or former prostitutes. Did they flock to a military base in hopes of meeting an American guy? You bet. But in my experience American men aren't interested in dating women who are fucking dozens of guys for money, let alone marrying one.
