Who does home projects?

WGCC87 I have two words for you:

Kick ass

Can I come play?

I've done my fair share of home projects, but making a walk out for the basement is beyond my current skill set. Kudos.

Betticus, it will be a block vault set of walkout steps with root celler storage underneath them.

I would love to trade you use of said dungeon for work.......... BUT, i havent time for my own list to get finished, let alone to do work for others.

Pantomime muse..... sure.... can you lay block:D... having friends in the construction trades is sure a plus.

It's been awhile, but I think I'm still of some use.:D

I can imagine. I have several family members that are into the trades. It is definitely a plus.

Thanks for all the wonderful comment on my garden, like I said this year I'm hoping *fingers crosed* to be a bit more daring:D

Bet and WGCC87, good luck with your projects.

And can I just say I would LOVE a playtoy like that! lol:D

This is what I've been working on over the last few months:

This is one of the chairs we reupholstered. It was, when we got them, cream with pink flowers. *gag* Plus the fabric was very cheap and very thin, and eventually ripped. I found this fabric, a very good thick cloth, ON SALE, for about $2 a yard. It was still spendy, cause there's five chairs, but TOTALLY worth it. In this picture it looks kinda grey, but it's more of a sage green.

This is just the dining room table and all it's chairs. On my list of things to do (hopefully this summer) is refinish the table. For now I hide it underneath a table cloth. Behind are the shelves that we just bought with tax money. The old shelves were dark brown, I bought them from a neighbor for $20 and they were sagging and dingy. These are wider and taller, so I can fit more on them. :nana: Eventually (hopefully this weekend) the pictures you see in the background will be moved to another wall, and their's a huge mirror that I want to put between those shelves.

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h284/graceanne1978/DSC01387.jpg
This was a smaller project. The bed is always as it has been, but it was messy and stuff before. We had papers stacked on the shelves and other un-needed things. I cleared off all the clutter, and put me and K's DVD's and movies there instead. In the center is some staggered faux-wraught (sp?) iron candle sticks. Eventually I want to get some white candles for them. Above I put a smaller bookshelf on it's side and turned it into another bookshelf. And above that is one of our radios. The pictures were a more recent addition - they used to be my granpdpas, he got them in Vietnam before the war. The shelves underneath still need work (as in new runners), and I'm hoping to get that taken care of in the next month or so. Frankly, my son's shelves need work, too.

This is kinda an in-between picture of my porch. Suffice it to say it was a MESS. We cleaned it up, threw away a lot of stuff, and swept it. I'm going to buy some tomato plants for the pots and maybe a rose bush or two. :D

This is the second most recent, and one that I'm most pleased about. I found a nice coat rack at the goodwill, and finally got K to hang it up, and now our coats have somewhere to HANG! :nana: (You know, as apposed to going on the floor.)

What sort of table will you be making? I'm seriously thinking of building a new dining room table this year, probably in an American mission style.

I will build a corner table for study and the computer.

Will be at my little daughter room.

And my wife is begging me to do another for we both. Will be under a window at roof and will be an "L" table too. For sweing, handcrafting and her computer too.

A dinnig room table... Good idea, but not now. Maybe in a future...

Cat, sounds like you are close to rebuilding the whole house! Where's the photos?

LOL, tell me about it...have already stripped all the walls on the ground floor and re plastered and painted them, done one room on the second floor, and still have the rest of the 2nd floor to do as well as the 3rd, and guess who gets to do it all?!! Pics? Think there are some around here but here are a couple though need to take some more recent ones..new curtains, new lounge, clock, more spice racks, have moved the furniture around (I love doing that:D), lots more plants which I haven't killed!!

Catalina:catroar:

Edited to add my living room corner by the window instead of the previous bookshelf....

I'd love to see pictures when you finish - or even as you go along. Seeing how other people do their joinery is always fun.

Awesome! Eventually, if we ever own our own house, I want to do one of the walls in me and K's bedroom in that red. I'm going to have the whole room in that dark red with white and black accents. And of course, the dark wood that is already part of the furniture.

Ooh, fab!

Y'all have inspired me. Mister Man said I could redo his front room!

To give a little background, Mister Man lives in a rowhouse built in 1890. The bones of the house are great - but oh man does it need to be redone. Basically over the years it was covered and redone with awful cheap materials.

The walls need to be repainted, the kitchen is a mess (broken tile, cheap countertops and cabinets), the original oak wood floors were covered with pergo , and then there are various other weird issues (the crown molding has been covered up in part - it's a long story, but I think we may be able to do a superficialfix on this).

Anyway, the front room is a challenging octagon-ish (something like that) shape, with gorgeous tall windows on the wall that face out to the front, a random closet that must have been added later with some sort of odd plastic folding door, and a fireplace that no longer works. As to the fireplace, there is a wood mantel that was stained some god awful color that doesn't look particularly natural, and an opening (though you can't light a fire in it). I am thinking of putting candles in there. But more importantly, I am going to do an antiqued/shabby chic white paint treatment on the fireplace, get a mirror for the space in the mantel where a mirror goes (as it currently has, ahem, wrapping paper in that space - yes, wrapping paper), the aforementioned candles and then swap out that heinous plastic sliding closet door for a curtain. If I get ambitious, I'm going to repaint the walls in that room too.

yep.. he is beautiful.. and smart and funny and.. ohhh you were being sarcastic about the wall..

it's called.. PRIMER.. and I have the feeling it's about to become my best friend

What color is it going to be?

That is just SICK and WRONG. Don't worry, kharma will get the evil doer who'd put pergo over a wood floor.

THANK YOU!!! Argh. Drives me nuts. Part of me thinks if we end up getting married, we should just redo his place and live there, mostly because it makes me twitch to think of such a beautiful place in that condition! I'm warped.

K had done floors for like 10 years, my brother in law the same . . . I'm a floor snob. Pergo sucks. LOL

I remember seeing pictures of it once a long time ago and thinking, eh, not that bad. But now seeing it in person? Oh hell yes it is! The question is, what condition are the oak floors in undearneath? Hopefully not too bad.

The staircase is original too - it's soo nice. Well, aside from the bad paint job. At least it's just white paint though. The fireplace mantel is just bizarre.

well right now..we're leaning towards ecru.. or eggshell

we're trying to get the house on the market by Sunday.. right now the rooms are charcoal grey, midnight blue, burgundy red, and hunter green.. allll dark..which we've loved since we moved in.. however... with my job moving me to cleveland..we have to go with the suggestions of realtors and go with neutral colors..which means..this week.. lots of painting primer

Sounds like a good plan. I get into splurges of watching the BBC programs on redoing houses and preparing houses for sale and one of the things they seem to recommend and do most when trying to sell a house is removing most if not all personal photographs, removing most of the clutter such as ornaments, books, bookshelves etc., painting neutral colours, adding cushions etc., putting double beds in all rooms if they fit comfortably, and they say having a smell of baking in the house when prospective buyers come can make a sale happen faster.

Thanks.. we'll work on some of the things..like the beds..right now we just dont have any place to store our stuff.. most of the personal objects are already packed.. so that's not a big deal.. but we're working on neutralizing our colors

anyone need a king-sized wooden waterbed from with hooks for restraints already attached???
