White Supremacists Rally in Kansas

OK, now THIS headline pisses me off.

Here is the link to the story:

White Supremacists Rally in Kansas

There were less than
25 people at the so-called rally. And they left 45 minutes earlier than they had planned because there were so many other people there protesting against them!

That CNN headline makes it sound much, much worse for my li'l Bible Belt state. I mean, honestly, there are quite a few farmers and hicks around here (except for the populated areas around the major universities - lol) but for the most part this is a "nice" state. We aren't overloaded with that brand of hatred.

If someone sees the headline and doesn't read the story???????

(God damn whore-mongering media assholes, anyway!)

OK, I feel better. :)

I understand your frustration. I don't even want to think of the misconceptions peole have of my home state (TX) thanks to media portrayals.

:(

If it makes you feel any better, the few times I've been to/through Kansas, the people were very very nice. We were welcomed, assisted and treated kindly by everyone we came across.

Oh, we got 'em here too. Where I live used to be a very Jewish suburb (now it's mostly asian) and so we drew Neo-Nazia and skinheads all the time. They even used to march down to the holocaust memorial and badmouth it. We finally learned to just ignore them and they stopped coming.

A couple years ago some asswipe from the Church Of The Creator decided to take matters in his own hands and came down here to drive around and shoot people. He killed a black coach from Evanston High School and injured like 4-5 others before he put a bullet through his own brain. (I'm surprised he hit in on the first try.) There are assholes everywhere.

I've been through Kansas a few times, and I've found that once you get off the interstates and start taking the two-lanes, it's a beautiful and wonderfully friendly state, one of the most pleasant surprises I found in driving coast to coast.

Now Nebraska... They've got problems.:D

I chose to ignore it for my own sanity. I don't feel the need to have these idiots ruin my day.

I've never seen Kansas but then again, I'm right next to Ohio and never saw that either....lol

I know this sounds bad, but I almost wish they were simply protesting here. A few years back there was a black man dragged to death behind a pick up by three young white men. Sadly that man's (James Byrd) grave was recently desecrated by more of the same backwards thinking that caused his death. It just never seems to end.

There was a documentary on the trials over the murder of James Byrd a couple of years ago. Filmed with two crews, one white and one black, under the reasoning that people would be more open in front of the cameras if the crew was the same race as them.

I almost wish I hadn't seen it. The talent some people have for rationalizing actions and marginalizing tragedy never ceases to amaze and anger me.

I wanted to vomit just reading about it. His poor family too, your heart has to go out to them, it's difficult enough to live through it once.
This poor man living a simple life and look what becomes his claim to fame.:(

Glad to hear Dr. M's neighborhood has taken the stand and ignore the stupid. Kudos.

Yes, it was very hard to watch. And sadly, it served to help solidify the generaliztion that the majority of small town Texas families hold such awful opinions and beliefs.

Ignorance.

If you have five micro-encephalic morons doing something reprehensible, and a million sensible people opposing them, the media gives both equal time, to air their opinion.

They call that balanced journalism.

I remember hearing about that when it happened. How horrible. And the recent grave desecration is also disturbing.

I suppose the White Supremacists did serve one good purpose; we used them as a dinner table topic discussing the evils of race hatred.

Bless my kids. My son (age 5) hasn't really noticed skin color yet, and my daughter (age 9) has troubles with "black" and "white." Her friends have brown-ish skin, she said, and she decided our own family's skin is more of a peachy-beige (except my husband, who sports a year-round coach's tan).

It is pretty unfortunate that most of us have to deal with that "hater" element in our own areas.

I wonder if they can be neutered, like pets? Then they cannot reproduce and spread their terroristic views?

(just a thought?)

Oh, I agree. Very annoying.

But sometimes the press will express viewpoints in their headlines. I know they are supposed to present a non-judgmental stance, but we all know how often it is skewed.

So in that vein, they could have said:

"Small Group of White Supremacists Turned Away"

or

"Unsuccessful White Supremacist Rally in Kansas"

or

"Hordes of Kansans Prevent White Supremacist Rally"

(and I'm getting ridiculous, now . . .)

But they could have done better!!!!!

Or how about REDNECK FAMILY LOST WHILE PICKNICKING?
I think you're on to something here. :) Headlines that doesn't exaggerate? Never heard of 'em.

Between Bush horning in and these idiots, it sounds like a regular carnival.

Maybe we should agree to avoid even-sounding anniversaries of things. Have nobody even bother with the twentieth or twenty-fifth anniversary of anything, but plan a biggie for the twenty-three and four months' anniversary...

Spring it on 'em quick enough, and they won't be able to get there on time.

There must be a better way of keeping these pests away.

Mantraps and caltrops spring to mind.

Only those who are welcome would be told the safe route to the party.

Unfortunately, our media gets fixated on what create the most buzz. A town turning away skinheads doesn't create as juicy a story as the skinheads marching on a town.

We had the same thing in my town a few years ago. The KKK decided to hold a rally on the courthouse steps. The town (both black and white) decided that the best way to handle it was to ignore them. No one showed for their rally, either in support or counter protest. It was basically them preaching to themselves and the throng of media gathered for the big event.

The media portrayed it as a huge gathering, that the cops had to rule with an iron fist to keep everyone safe, etc... The reality is, other than the media and the klansmen, no one was there.

White supremacists.

Is there any creedo that is more moronic?

I defy anyone to look at renza or des and say beauty knows color.
I defy anyone to listen to Louis Armstrong and try to tell me Musical talent cares about skin pigmenttion.
I defy anyone to study history and tell me intelligence, wisdom or any other trait manifests itself more often in one race.

I defy... these bozo's to prove they have a working brain cell.

Jeeze.

Look at the bright side, you aren't from Mississippi. The perception that we are all born with a pilowcase over our heads and a match to light a cross in one hand with a bible in the other is alive & well. When I first moved up here, the moment anyone heard I was from Mississippi they instantly felt comfortable telling me their favorite off color jokes.

See, this is what really baffles me. It is so easy to prove these people wrong.

They are somewhet intelligent beings, they know how to tie their shoes, how to write "kil all blaks" on a banderole, and even sometimes, how to find the way to the rally meetings.

So somewhere deep inside if their thick skulls, they must know that everytime they do this, they makes themselves look like the biggest idiots on the planet. Their futile perseverence is almost, but only almost, impressive.

One thing these knuckle-draggers always fail to understand is, if they actually lived in a country that practised racial cleansing, they would unerringly receive the premier dose of retroactive spermicide.

Hey hey hey, now wait a minute here.

Two things. A) Not all Rednecks are racists. Look at me. My neck has flared a time or two, but I'm the original Equal Opportunity Lech. (How is it they used to put it? Beauty is only sin deep but ugly is to the bone?)
B) All of these supremasists serve a purpose. Whether they are white Supremicists, Black Supremicists, Lesbian, Gay, Catholic Protestant, etc. They serve a couple of purposes. (Another name for them would be Fanatics.) They make a great source of humor, and they make great moving targets. (Although disposing of the bodies does cause some concern. You can be charged with such things as disposing of Toxic Waste, or littering.)
Have you ever noticed though, that no matter how well educated these people seem to be, they are the most ignorant among us?

Cat

P.S. Renza, if you need to be shaved in preparation of your delivery let me know. I never knick, and I do a smoothness test with my tongue.

Before we all sprain our shoulders from slapping ourselves on the back, let's all examine our own feelings about Muslims, Iraqis and Middle-easterners. It seems that not too long ago there were some on the boards suggesting that we wipe them all out.

I admit, I am a redneck. Only because if I spend an hour outside my neck is sure to turn red. Damn dryness and elevation.

Hear, hear

(normally, I'd have an exclamation point after that, but I'm less than enthusiastic about this whole topic. :( Exclamation points just seem wrong.)
