How is it that the white shooter in a predominantly black neighborhood could kill so many black people and then live afterwards, when so many blacks are killing each other so often that nobody had a gun to shoot the white guy. as for the police taking him alive, having dissuaded him from shooting himself, i think this is a good outcome... and most other such situations should be resolved suchly, leaving the courts to make the decisions on the futures of these people. shame that it's mostly a very different situation and the families of victims are left with nothing but their grief, with no sense of justice having been delivered by a mass murderer serving a life of imprisonment (or even a death sentence, lawfully handed down).
