As a student journalist, I go to conventions every semester that hold seminars to help improve upon our skills. At the last convention I went to last month, one of the speakers told us that journalism was the third most hated profession in the U.S., beaten out only by lawyers and used care salesmen. So, I've put up a list of professions that I thought people would hate. Give me your answer and post your reasons why you hate these people. I'm just curious to see what the responses are.

You forgot collection agents.

Heh yeah well I only had space for ten, and I wanted to try and get major professions. Besides, that's why the "Other" option is available.

I hate lawyers

The difference between us and them is that we stop sucking when the victim is dead.

Polititions. :(

They will lie, cheat, and steal, all with just one thing in mind. Winning an election. The bad part is they will tell you to your face that they are working for you and not even bat an eye.

I can say that I hate politicans myself, especially since I'm having to put up with student politicans at school. It never changes, no matter what the scale is.

Journalists are hated because people like to blame things on them/us.

You picked a good profession to be a student of...hope you don't ever want to be rich, lol.

Heh nope. If I wanted to be rich, I'd have become a lawyer. I'd be hated just as much, but at least I'd have money to show for it.

And I know very well just how much people like to blame their mistakes on journalists.

Asshole/ Bitch customer service people. Particularly ones who work for the telephone company.

Slack jawed kids who work at the Hardware/ Computer store who never know a goddamned thing about hardware/ computers.

What kind of journalism are you looking to go into?

I want to go into print, working for newspapers. Right now I want to try and get an internship with the Associated Press and after that I'd like to work for them in the Boston Area. After that, I'm not sure. I think working for the Associated Press would be a great experience in itself.

I worked selling computers during my Freshman year at college, and a lot of the time I didn't know a damn thing about what I was selling. Luckily, I managed to bullshit my way through most of it, except when I tried to sell a computer to a computer programmer who felt the need to correct me whenever I referred to Windows 2000 as a "program" instead of an "operating system".

This is why people hate journalists. First you said that Used Car Salesmen were in the top three, then you didn't even put them in the poll, (skewing the results) then you told us that you made a list of people you thought we would hate, even after the speaker told you otherwise at the convention. So you didn't report the story right, you were lazy, and YOU LIED TO US. And that's why people hate journalists EVEN MORE than lawyers and used car salesmen. (The speaker lied to you, too. He was a journalist, right?)

I'm just kidding with you. Journalists are great.:D

Insurance Culture...

Who convinced the politicians to project corporate profits into public law! Helmets, seatbelts, airbags, antifreedom sucking motherfuckers. They developed a evil culture in America, where you feel good when someone decides for you what's good for you, because you are too fucking stupid. A couple of years from now, you won't leave your house, you'll have all the interactive web feeds so you don't have to leave, and just go to work, pay your taxes, and sleep. All that with an insurance approved helmet, inflato-vest, 24/7 home monitor system! :D

I went into a hardware store recently and asked for electrical wire. The guy didn't know what I was talking about.

Yeah, the AP could definitely be interesting. A few years ago an AP job opened up near here and I thought about applying for it, but changed my mind. Good thing I didn't, because I got a big boost up in my career a couple of months later.

Good luck!

Hehe thanks. It should definitely be an interesting experience.

Wow Harbinger, don't pen up your frustrations like that, it isn't good for ya to hold it all in! ;)

I really am just kidding around. Most people only fault journalists when they report a view they don't agree with. So the people are really no more objective than the media.
