Where's the lettuce?

Just returned from Walmart, which featured empty shelves where lettuce and other produce generally reside.
There was a sign noting bad weather adversely impacted crops along with an apology. Last week there were no heads of lettuce and little in the way of packaged salads.
Tonight I got one of the last packaged salads.
I'm not used to encountering empty shelves.
Is it the same where you live?

My lettuce is always on point.

There is a shortage of produce pickers in the US.

I forgot that at this time of night most of the GB regulars confine their shopping to the cookie aisle.

No. But the weather hasn't been bad here. Of course, veggies aren't local this time of year.

This time of year I would think a lot of produce comes from Yuma, AZ, or South America. The bad weather must be in S.A.

Walmart doesn't carry fresh produce near me. I doubt Walmart can make much of a profit on shipping fresh produce to Canada. Even the most southerly regions.

Not sure if I would buy fresh produce from Walmart. Everything else they sell is pretty much crap throw away stuff. Quality is not a word I think of when thinking Walmart. And a real grocery store dedicated to food with many square feet of space will beat them on price. As will a local low overhead market.

Processed no name brand food items at Walmart only.

Find a better market.

But watch out for LJ!

I can't speak for your Walmart. The one I shop is the largest food store in town (there are four others) and carries the same name brands.
I'm sorry Walmart doesn't feel your community is worth the investment.

Looked about apparently the Walmart in north London does have fresh produce. There are at least 16-20 supermarkets in London. We just may not be able to support another grocery store. Still likely to shop a Canadian owned chain first though. They claim to buy local, provincial then national as priorities when available which is nice. Most do anyways I think.

Usually I buy bag/tub greens ready to eat. Iceburg is my least favorite.

However, I'm cooking hamburgers tomorrow with a few friend and plan on getting a head of iceburg today. I sure hope there is lettuce!!!

Not a problem around here. We have an abundance of a variety of lettuce. But I haven't checked the local Wally World - they may be completely out of inventory of leafy stuff.
