Where and How do you find your Avatars?

I was just curious. I did a search and found that it was quite easy to find "dollies" (looks like they r the internet's version of ty beanie babies haha). I was just curious how and where you found some of the rather unique ones?

I used to go to Virtual Places chat. Av's have always been used there. There are so many Av painters, many are master's of their art. So, I thought I'd post a couple links for you to browse if you like. There are literally 1000's of Av's to chose from.

I just took a picture of the dirty old man doll my kids gave me for fathers day one year, sized it down to fit the icon size limits an voila.
