When I Was a Kid....

WIWAK I had to wait until Saturday morning to watch the best cartoons and it only lasted until Mom and Dad decided to get up, then the TV was theirs.

When l was a kid l can remember finding hidden shapes in the clouds and rolling down grassy hills giggling and laughing having so much fun...You suggest doing that with a child now they would think you were nuts lol....

WIWAK I used to make daisy chains of flowers and give them to the girls. It's been a long time since I've done that. :(

WIWAK I woul spend every free minute trying to go out for a dirt bike ride. (even in the winter)

Wiwak, we kids got kicked out of the house on Saturday morning and weren't allowed to come back until the streetlight came on. Momma was cleaning house. Haha.

Depending at what age we stopped being kids....I came home about the time they were shutting off. Because I was a bad boy

My Daddy would put his belt on my ass should I break curfew, in front of the neighbors, out on my dirt front yard.

No one dared to call the cops....those few minutes before they showed up could get real hairy.:cool:

WIWAK we would ride our bikes to 7-Eleven and buy Grease Cards for 50 cents a pack (trying to get the ones we didn't have to make the bad puzzle on the back of the cards :) )

WIWAK I was a big fan of the Care Bears (but you probably guessed that already)

Kids

When I was a kid we could go to the park on our bikes by ourselves and only have to come home to eat dinner

WIWAK an hour-long TV show was not 22 minutes of ads.

WIWAK if a kid got hurt playing there was not an automatic lawsuit.

WIWAK a teen walking down the street with a rifle didn't even merit a raised eyebrow.

WIWAK people had integrity and you knew it.

WIWAK books were read for pleasure, phones were used sparingly and going to the movies to catch the summer blockbuster was a special treat.

WIWAK my summer was spent begging "grown ups" to "watch" us at the pool...

WIWAK my brother and I would get our chores done as fast as we could in the morning then head out to play, coming home only for lunch and supper. After supper we would play outside some more until dark then sit on the curb and talk. We would see our neighbors out for walks and we knew them all, Mr & Mrs Faas, Mr & Mrs Brocka, we had no idea of their first names......everyone was Mr & Mrs......

WIWAK we always took the teacher a little gift at the end of the year.

I remember doing that too. And May Basket Day......running around the neighborhood putting paper cups of popcorn, gumdrops and M&M's on friends porches.

My kids do this every year (well next year will be the last as they will both be in Jr. High :( )

WIWAK you only got a trophy if your team was the champion and we always kept score...

WIWAK my parents wouldn't let me have a bicycle because they knew I kill myself (in San Francisco)

WIWAK I was worked like a farm hand on a farm (very true)

I loved being on a farm as a youngster. So much to do if you did not mind working.

No kids to play with so we had to keep busy working. ALways something to do on the farm.

Nothing like the Hoosier state in the summer and fall.

Sent to a PM..Great comments
