When I Was a Kid....

WIWAK summer time meant more work to do around the farm to be celebrated by swimming in the cattle watering tank at the end of the day.

Winter time meant it was time to hook the tractor hub cap up to the rear of grandpa's truck.....until he slung me into a barb wire fence then grandma made him stop :(

Aw, damn! I'm guessing it seemed like a good idea at the time! Is that one of those "It's all fun and games until somebody gets slammed into a barbed wire fence" kind of experiences???

LOL, yes it was, I think grandma was more upset about my coveralls getting all cut up, LOL.....she couldn't fix them, but they did last me to the end of that winter. Man I still remember taking that corner, going into that ditch, then being launched LOLOL....I couldn't hang on, I went flying. I still remember my Grandfather telling me.....I told you you have to hang on, LOL

WIWAK.....I used to hide candy under the mattress of my bed...yeah, I know...it's cooler to say I hid dirty mags like Playboy Magazine...but...my dad was a dentist and he was really strict about too many sweets in the house...I always knew when to "move " the candy when my mom got the spring cleaning bug and then would ask my dad to flip the mattress over. I would usually just shove all the candy into my backpack and then gorge myself with it down the street at the park.

Funny thing is...I STILL hide...OK, I " store" candy in my office desk drawer.;)

WIWAK, Disney movies could be watched for days on end, without getting old or repetitive....Who am I kidding...I still do that!

Yea, I LOVE Disney movies, I truly do. and thank you for the compliment on the other thread

WIWAK I used to climb mango trees to pluck the ripe ones for my friends - i fell off the tree and broke my leg once - didn't stop me from climbing up again when the plaster went off :D

See there ... ya would have had those porno magazines and masturbated like mad if your Dad was a Southern Baptist Preacher. ;)

Willy Wonka you... :D

I'm embarrassed!!!!!! I said Charlie instead of Willie! Dang it screwed that up!

I also put a hole in my big wheel tire using it as a break, but before that I actually did that with my tricycle as well, LOL

WIWAK we played football anywhere and everywhere

Now the kids carry knives and guns

Bad times

We carried knives....and I don't recall one ever being pulled in a fight. I'm not saying it didn't happen anywhere or at any time, it just wasn't why we had them, and we had some sense if responsibility.

WIWAK my brother used to make Soda Can Cannons. Always thought they were cool. (There are tons of videos on youtube of people setting these off!!)

WIWAK I thought it was so cool that we got little plastic combs at school on picture day.

WIWAK I was at the lake all day during the Summer with my friends. We would bring our backpacks full of junk food, and we would eat, swim, and then look forward to another day doing the same thing.

Funny you should say that -- WIWAK, we did too. Now the kids have to use the combs and then throw them away so that they won't share combs -- and whatever might be living in their hair -- with the other students.

WIWAK....I played with Legos and actual Nerf guns. Outside, of all places. And now they make video games where kids can do the same things without having to get up from the couch...sad

You just reminded me of how, WIWAK, we used to pack tomato and cheese sandwiches and wrap them in aluminum foil and take them to the lake with us. If you left them out in the sun all morning, by the afternoon the cheese would be all melty. Yum! I miss those!

WIWAK -- my parents would have thrown my sorry ass out the door anyway!!! :cattail:

WIWAK we played with rocks and sticks. We would cut down really tall weeds to make swords. We used old screw drivers or if lucky we had a cap gun! Yea I remember my cap guns, they were awesome! We weren't allowed inside, not even for lunch LOL.

WIWAK you could pay for a movie once and sit in the theater all day long (yes I saw Grease 15 times that summer!)

WIWAK my family (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc) made a point of getting together to go camping for a week every summer. While the number of participants has greatly dwindled, we still go to the same campground every summer.
