When I Was a Kid....

We used to do something every summer too... it was Florida/Disney a few times... Washington D.C., Chicago, Wisconsin Dells, Myrtle Beach... my mom would save change and stash tens and twenties in a manila envelope all year long to save for it.

This post made me smile...Those trips were some of the most beloved memories of my life...I am happy you too experienced that...Your mama was one smart cookie...:)

WIWAK, my mom sent me to 6th grade camp with money she saved from the grocery money and using Eagle Stamps.

WIWAK...

At 11 &12 I was reading all the high school mandatory reading English books that my older siblings didn't return at the end of the year - we had a nice little library at home. ;)
Was a huge let down when I reached Grade 12 and they were STILL mandatory reading...no wonder I was hardly ever in class...and carried a 90% average...

When I was a kid, there were no fax machines, scanners, pcs. Hell, I learned to type on a manual typewriter.

WIWAK...
In the winter, Saturday nights were spent watching Hockey Night in Canada.
We would lay on the floor and eat scads of popcorn from the big turkey roasting pan.
And no one was allowed to cheer for the Habs - only the Leafs. Especially if the Habs scored. You got sent to bed if you did - just ask my older brother....

wiwak....I did not have a good relationship with my father..bordered on abusive......he did like bugs bunny..and shared that with me....I am a much better father than he ever was....

When I was a kid, I would go to the community pool at least a couple times a week...

When I was a kid, I would go to the community pool at least a couple times a week...

When I was a kid, my brother, his friends, and I would go to the poolby ourselves. No parents. Half the time, our parents didn't know about it.

WIWAK I'd spend my weekends in the garden with my Dad. We grew veges and had a lil orchard. I also learned the art of jam making and preserves. A tomato tasted like a tomato should. To get the same flavour today, you have to buy grape tomatoes... sad really

WIWAK if you could ride your bike no hands around the block you were good, on one wheel you were a legend.

WIWAK both the television and microwave weighed a ton, gas was $.88 per gallon, Cabbage Patch Kids were popular and gummy bracelets were the rage.
