When I Was a Kid....

WiWAK I got so suntanned in the summer that at dusk you could barely see me! We didn't use sunblock or sunscreen, because we never heard about skin cancer.

Ignorance is bliss, eh?

And sunburns were not really a thing either! Yet now a few hours in the sun and burnt to a crisp.

When I was a kid; You could fill a 15 gallon gas tank for under $5

When I was a kid; silly string and squirmles was in

They had a predilection for 's' words I guess

WIWAK, both my parents smoked...heavily. So did John Wayne and the Marlboro Man.
My mom went to the doctor for a physical and quit cold turkey... no patch, no gum...cold turkey.
Does anyone else remember all the smoking back then? You could smoke in department stores, malls, restaurants, everywhere because everyone smoked.

Oh yeah, my mom smoked until I was ten years old. She quit cold turkey because my parents divorced and she couldn't afford them anymore. She would send me to the corner store with a note so the cashier would sell them to me.

I got burned by my parents cigarettes so many times as a kid. I would go to reach for their hand and touch the cigarette instead. Or, wait, here is one, did you ever drink out of the soda/beer can they were using as an ashtray? Oh yeah! Memories.

When I was a kid, there was this one POS appliance and electronics manufacturer called Goldstar. They were utter crap that you would buy a panasonic (a better piece of crap) before buying a goldstar.

Goldstar merged with Lucky Chemical and became LG and is today considered to be the leading appliance and electronics manufacturer.

My parents both smoked...Players Plain, 2 packs a day. And yes, they smoked everywhere. In the house, in the car...
They both quit at the same time....cold turkey. After all 14 of us kids were born.
Idk...we all seemed to have turned out fine...;)

WIWAK...

In the winter, we thought it was cool to down hill ski with cross country skis on...off of the roof of the barn. I still can't believe no one didn't get hurt...

WIWAK we used to bike EVERYWHERE. Left in the morning, didn't come home till supper. Small town and everyone looked out for one another's kids. Nobody thought anything about it.

WIWAK we all went home by the time the street lights came on because there was nothing to do after that.

WIWAK- The tiny (pop 230) town nearest our farm had "Town Night" on Wednesdays during the summer for a few years. Everyone would come to town. The grownups mainly sat and drank coffee or visited I think. We dirty rotten little heathens from the countryside would raise all and any kind of hell we could while together. If we planned carefully, we even got Dad to haul our bicycles to town that night and the races, rodeos, wheeled games went on until about 10:00 pm. That is when you better have your butt back on main street where Mom & Dad could find you.

Same here. My mom would shoo us out the door after breakfast, maybe with a few bucks each to get snacks... and then we'd come home at dusk. If we came home during the day for any longer than it took to get something to eat and use the bathroom, we'd get assigned chores.

When I was a kid...I went to Disney World Every year with my family...

I was so blessed to have had the most amazing parents in my life who treasured us deeply and always made sure we knew we were loved immensely..***** felt so safe then...:rose:

We used to do something every summer too... it was Florida/Disney a few times... Washington D.C., Chicago, Wisconsin Dells, Myrtle Beach... my mom would save change and stash tens and twenties in a manila envelope all year long to save for it.

When I was a kid, GUTS was the bomb. "Coolness" was an interjection. K-Ci and JoJo serenaded you to sloppy makeout sessions. And magic 8-balls were still a thing.

WIWAK, my parents would never say no to buying us books, no matter how many we already had. A game console, though, my brother and I had to pool our cash reserves together to buy from a friend's garage sale, and my mom still almost made us return it, lol.

When I was a kid, scholastic books would do book shows at my school. And, when you were done speed reading a goosebumps title, you'd buy a scented mechanical pencil and fucking bail before someone made you buy that thing.
