What's your escape?

Now that I've read others...

I want to add to mine.

The sitting in front of the computer is what is *do*.

What I'd *like* to do is another matter. Just shows you - I've forgotten most of the things I used to do to relax.

I used to play the piano, or my violin, or the guitar for enjoyment. I found that playing old familiar songs (while trying each time to play them perfectly) was relaxing.

I've found that concentrating on a good game of pool to be excellent for relaxation, especially when you win. Something about the sledgehammer break gets the tensions out too.

And last and most important, I loved to dance. 14 years at ballet taught me an appreciation for movement, be it ballet, or break dancing. There is *nothing* better to me than to go out to a bar/club with a really superb DJ or a live band and totally lose myself in the music and dance. The training has given me confidence which shows (I've been told), plus there is something in the actual beat of the music that will not allow me to *not* move.

End of diatribe.

I've taken to volleyball drills lately.. really intense ones (I'm trying to get back into the sport, after 4 years of not playing on a team)... I find that when I'm serving or spiking, I can let out frustration, and let myself free in my mind, to think... those activities require no thought, so my brain is able to wander.

I also meditate, anywhere. And I find that just being over at my SO's, where few people have the number, where he and I can just lay in bed together and talk... that's a great place to figure things out, to think aloud, and to find peace.

Very occasionally, if you're really paying attention, life doesn't suck.

I can see that going into a sig line.

For mellow....just sitting in a cafe..chillin' relaxing...

Portishead, Lamb, Morcheeba, Beth Orton, Tori Amos, Beth Gibbons, Dead Can Dance...etc...etc...

If I'm climbing,

Groove Armada, Leftfeild, Dj Shadow, Amon Tobin, Essential Remixes, Basement Jaxxx, Fatboy Slim...etc..etc..etc..

I will agree with the climbing thing, hence bouldering ROX. No ropes no harness..just you and a short steep climb. Pick out a problem and try and solve it..the best is Add On. A game you play with multiple people. Each person ADDS ON two moves AFTER first compleating the moves prior...it's a great way to build strength and skill.

I'm a climbing finatic:D

I'm going to have to ask you more about this later, I'm not sure I know what this is.

Si’ sometimes it is more relax in composer, then again it is sometimes more hyped. I love cooking; it relaxes me to be productive in the kitchen.

Another creative "thinker".

I'm feeling rather lazy in the company of all these productive people! I just run away...lol

I'm a night owl. I love the night better than day. Just wish there were more 24/7 business's open.

Early? What part of the world are you in? It's 2am here!

What did you want to buy?

I also have other ways to relax and kick back. My main ones I listed and as to the martial arts...our instructor was taught in Korea, so he taught the full old school way.

Ahhh, I got gipped then is what you're saying.

*wink*

The physical release is where I see this working. Problems vanish with every drop of sweat that hits the mat.

My drug of choice..

In today's society, you can't just jump on a horse, and ride to the mountains without getting killed by all the cars. With a motorcycle, you have a fighting chance. With a motorcycle, you get sensory overload while riding, the sting of raindrops, the smell of evergreen trees, smoke in a fireplace, the smell of a barbeque, or the advanced smell of the ocean as you draw nearer. You ride along with the crows, hawks, eagles, and say hello to the deer as I pass. You get in touch with the whole of your environment, disconnected from your cluttered world left behind temporarily. A great deal of people I know that ride have the same thoughts, and mild demeanors after a nice ride in the country or away from mankind in general.
You can only try it and see what I mean.

It's 12:41 here. Won't be for another 5+ hours until it's my bed time.

Anything that I can during the day. Would make life SO much easier.

But back to topic, I also listen to music and write as a 'time out' to reflect on things.

I'm the same.

I find an isolated beach and talk to the ocean, or drown for tiny seconds in the blue beyond, or scream into the wind, or write unread notes on wet sand for the tide to wash away.

At the end of the day, though, I can't leave my thoughts there in a little pile on the sand, they always creep home with me.

But it's peaceful there, for brief moments.

Nice thread :rose:

That's what it's about. These escapes don't make the problems go away, but hopefully they allow you some time to either cease the hammering in the head or a little perspective and problem solving.

Hmmm..somehow I forgot to mention that sometimes I crank up the classical music (mostly piano concertos from various composers) and pretend that I am the conductor. I do this after a very stressful day...

:)

Physical release...oh...heh...yeah that really helps me to relax and think.

Since yo feel gipped... I also play guitar, piano and on occasion cook. Mostly to relax, think and have release...what I mentioned before though.

I am also working on building a ride so that I can join up with Lost Cause someday. Riding on a Harley is quite...Zen. It really is.:)

I didn't know you played any intruments. Just goes to show me how much MORE I have to look forward to in the coming years of our friendship.

Plus your some pool shark...damn lady! I'm turned on by the thought of you cleaning house! *grins*

I've always loved the snipits of couples lives, the glimpse into what makes them a unique couple. Thank you for sharing that, Vixen.

Having a partner who is willing to listen and contribute at appropriate times is often taken for granted and not measured high enough on the list of "desirable qualities".

Enough, please.

You're making me absolutely green with jealousy. And it does nothing for my color.

I hopped a ride with an old friend on his bike once - and by the end of the ride, I was addicted. I came home, told my parents I was getting a cycle and I was threatened with death. I was 15 at the time.

Now I'm 33, and I still want a cycle. I guess when I get my act in order, then I'll learn. For now, I still have to convince my friend to give me rides in secret. He's very accomodating. *grin*

Now that I don't have a job currently, I don't wake up till about 1ish. But most of my jobs have been night jobs anyways, so I'm used to it, and even like it.

Depends on my mood. Got my hard stuff when I'm freelin frustrated, got my smooth stuff when I want to relax, got my up beat one for me to get psyched for something or to get hyper or stay awake.
