The longest I've ever gone was from the night before the delivery until about 5 weeks after the baby was born.

Six weeks is just too long.

It wouldn't work any other way. I would regard a long dry spell as a symptom of a serious problem, and I wouldn't let it go long before something was settled, one way or the other.
