We made one of our favorite breakfasts this morning: hash brown potatoes mixed with bacon bits and fried eggs on top. Master makes the potatoes like a big pancake (torta) so the outsides get nice and crispy and the inside is tender. I love watching him flip it....plate on top, in the pan, flip the pan, then slide the potatoes back in the pan. That cast iron skillet is so heavy, I could never manage it!

Goat cheese burgers. The buns turned out excellent, the cheese loved the balsamic syrup I drizzled over it before I put it in the oven, and the beet salad was a perfect companion for everything.

Made a simple avacado salad with tomatoes, cucumber cilantro and onion. A simple Greek dressing and yum!! Tastey and good for me :)

Was there any burger in there, or was it a cheese sandwich?

Shrimp curry with spinach and rice for tonight.

Normally it's my son's gaming night so the rest of us do fast food (aka burgers & fries, usually). I'm rather relieved that we get to avoid this, it's better for all of us to go without.

Tonight: Julia Child's Chicken Sauté. Very simple, classic, with baked potatoes (sweet and white) and steamed broccoli.

That's a great idea!
I have a daughter who loves naan and if we combine it with kalamatas she will be in food heaven.

I heated the naan according to package directions about 2 minutes on a pizza stone, took it out and added the ingredients, then popped it back in for about 3 minutes and finished it off under the broiler until bubbly. I add the fresh basil arrests. I will definitely be making this again!! Might add mushrooms.

Huh? I really like the idea of using naan as a pizza-like base, but I'm confused by this terminology.

Tomatoey shrimp bisque using mussel stock I boiled a couple of weeks ago. And naan (didn't add nigella seeds to the dough, though) because of CnC.

But it's just breakfast time...
:) Hooray naan!!

ETA:
I forgot to ask...
Is your Mom into naan?? :D

pinto beans with onions, peppers (red, green & jalapeno), smoked sausage and smoked neck bones. i added a tiny dollop of sambal chili paste for garnish (and because i love that stuff and put it on practically everything).

it's not fancy, but it's budget-friendly.

I love pinto beans, but for some reason I just don't like meat in them. I smoke some veggies in the BBQ pit, usually onions, garlic, jalapenos and bell pepper, and then I cook those with the beans. Still get the smoky notes, but without the occasional grittiness from bones, and without the meat. Makes for better resfritos with the leftovers, I think...
Love the garnishes and the broth - looks yummy :)

A garlic cross rib roast with a mustard paprika and garlic crust.
Red wine gravy with some whole red onions...bought a nice red (Apothic Red) so it will go nicely with the meal when it is done too!
Homemade crusty dinner rolls basted with some butter and just to make it totally unhealthy baked potatoes with green onions and sour cream ...

Yum dinner at my house LOL.

Bon Appetit

Have you had the Apothic Red before? I tried it once at one of those in-store tastings and just wasn't impressed. It's right at about my usual price point for wine, so I'm not being snobby on that score. I'll be interested in your take on it after your meal, if you please.

Sounds yummy! Apothic is good, as I am a fan of a Cab Sauv. Have you tried Cono Sur, Carnivor or Diabolica?

i'm jealous, i wish i had a smoker. i love refried beans spread a warm flour tortilla.

i caught a (partial) episode of the 'best thing i ever made' and they featured a dish called queso flameado (or queso fundido). one of these days, i'd like to try the recipe that's posted on foodnetwork.com

Good evening MWY, yes I have had it before. I like it. To each his own!! :D It tastes wonderful with the roast and horseradish (lol). I used to prefer sweeter wines but this just suits my taste buds for this type of meal. I have a few in my shelves...

What reds do you usually enjoy?
