What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

As the noble crayfish was getting so rare there was a ban on fishing them from november until the first wednesday in august. That is why we traditionally have our big season for the craw fish parties in august.
They lifted the ban in the early 90s because there was no point in trying to save what was already lost, but traditions die hard.

We pay roughly the prices you mention for a kg fresh imorted crawfish. Fresh Swedish ones will cost about 100$/kg.

Dinner yesterday was Schweinsbraten (perfect crust! :cartwheels:) with matching veggies:View attachment 2174426
Here the season is still very much a thing and it’s illegal to catch them outside the season. The signal crayfish is very much the norm here these days as well, but there are noble crayfish still to be had as well.

The prices Tallcajun mentioned… 🤯

The red ones pictured. That’s what we eat. Our rice farmers raise them after harvest. Big business here.
Feb to May, we have big crawfish boils.

A sack of crawfish run 35 to 40 pounds and cost around 50 to 60 dollars depending on market price.
The rice/crawfish rotation is ingenious; it fascinates me.

It’s still very regulated, just not as bound to the time of year.

Yes, those prices…
Let’s not share our Västerbottenspaj with them. :D

Oh yeah, let’s keep it all to ourselves. It is so good though. I’ll have to make some this season.

Spaghetti alla puttanesca here tonight.
The picky vegetarian came today instead and turned out to be pescetarian and less picky than I thought.

Appropriate user name!

I love mudbugs, but you have to settle for frozen here (Northern Virginia).

Usually I have to settle for substituting shrimp & reducing the salt in the recipe.

Hmmm... I haven't done an etoufeé in a while...

spent all day serving my wife and her 2 friends who slept over.

Nothing overtly sexual, but I played houseboy (fully clothed of course) and I made them coffee and blueberry buckwheat pancakes with banana for breakfast.

Then made them quacamole for lunch. Made them afternoon cosmos and then swordfish steaks for dinner with fresh veggies. Cleaned the leaves out of the pool…

I love to serve and told my wife I’d love to serve them naked all day. She wasn’t too keen on that idea, but we had a nice discussion about the fantasy! :)

no apron - this time! 🍆🍆🍆

Made the “kitchen sink” since we’re going away on vacation Thursday and I’m trying to use up the last of the garden and leftovers.

Last of zucchini, cherry tomatoes and potatoes from the garden, stir fried with the remnants of a Costco roasted chicken with some leftover pesto mixed in.

Miss Conduct was very happy.

Lunch was salad with porcini, trumpets of the dead, cavolo nero, broad beans, onion, pearl barley, parsley, egg.

Dinner will be Ethiopian bits and bobs.

Lunch is leftovers yesterday’s Ethiopian dinner.

Dinner is Korean eggplant and tofu and broccoli.

Plättar with two types of jam and whipped cream? Sign me up!

Make that cloudberry jam, lingonberry jam, Sauerkirsch marmelade and Nutella and cream.
Daughter wanted to go get drottningsylt too but I begged her to have mercy.
