What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

Looks pretty yummy to me! Screw perfect. Things are more interesting if they're not perfect. Perfect = boring

I made some Kulac stuffed with minced meat, onions and mushrooms.
Now, I'll prepare some yogurt sauce to go with it.

They look so delicious Orchi!

I had to google Kulac as I do not know them. Google calls it Albanian soda bread.

We had red lentil stew for lunch with bockwurst.

Yep. That's where I learned it. Though, I think it's of Turkish origin.
Actually, this is more like a Pite (which is soft) rather than Kulac, which is more like a homemade bread.

It's very easy and quick. You can make them in different ways and use it either as simple "bread" or stuffed, as I did. I didn't use soda, just wheat flour, salt and a bit of oil. But you can add yogurt or milk (or both) to the dough, and some baking powder. In some version they use dry yeast too.

p.s. I love Lentils.

They look great. Well done. One last question, did you cook them on a heavy based skillet on the stove top? Or did they go in the oven?

Lentils are a staple in our house, my boys would eat kilos of meat every day if they could - they can’t - and so they get lentils on their meat free days. I’m not made of money 😂😂

:D:D:D

I make them often, in winter, with sausages cut in small bites. But they are delicious without anything too.

I used a pan with a bit of butter, or oil if you prefer. Then, I put them in the oven for 10 min., with a small piece of butter on top of each. If you want, you can use cheese (mozzarella or provola) instead. I also used one smashed potato but that's not mandatory. It's yummy.

By they way, a small trick for the dough. Add a spoon of either white vinegar or lemon juice to it.

If you want to make the simple ones (not stuffed) and use them as a sort of bread (they would be delicious with Lentils, for example), you put them on a hot pan (thick bottom pan possibly) without butter or oil. After, melt some butter, mix it with a bit of chopped parsley and apply on them with a brush, like this.

Butter and parsley give them a good flavor and aroma. Buon Appetito. ;):)

There’s are times when I would like to be treated to a nice meal. This is not the time for that. After all my plans were shot down I’m going to be making the nice meal. Sashimi grade tuna for something. I guess.

Last night, baked chicken thighs in Italian dressing with broiled polenta fries and we split a baked sweet potato that needed to be used since it was growing tentacles in the basket.

The cake turned out okay, but the mousse was a little bit too soft so it sort of bulged under the weight of the top layer. It was tasty though. Needed more crunch.

I’m making French Onion Soup today, using Bourdain’s recipe. If anyone tried it before and has pointers to share, I’d appreciate it.

Oooh I love French onion soup! Never tried Anthony Bourdaiins recipe but it definitely needs a good slug of sherry or port to bring it to the next level.

good luck chopping all those onions 😂😘

Yup, will be a good cry no doubt. 😁

He says port so I’ll obey. Only ever used white wine or sherry before, but we have lots of port that we rarely drink and I try to be better at following recipes, at least tge first time.

Also, I find it interesting that a similar thread is ”Ladies shove your hands into your panties”.
Considering what thread we are in, I’d like to advise you to refrain if you just chopped chili, ginger or the likes.

One of my fondest memory involves just that.

Now I want onion soup. Cod with various leftover veggies is on the menu instead.

Well, unless you want to, of course. 😁
Not unthinkingly though.
Since the time I unthikingly got chili in my own eye, I wear vinyl gloves when chopping some things.
