What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

Thanks for that article!

When I visited Hong Kong, the little casual restaurant in the hotel always had a bowl of pickles on each table. They looked like mini cucumber pickles but tasted unlike any I'd ever eaten. Reading the article, I would bet they were miso preserved.

I'm sure the staff complained about the greedy girl at table 10 who cleaned out the entire bowl of pickles each day at lunch.

How interesting, I don’t know enough about Chinese culture to know. It could’ve been like peanuts/chips in a bar kind of thing. :)

Canard a l’orange with potatoes and brussel sprouts.

The cornbread dressing this year was disappointing. I busted up the leftovers in a skillet and toasted it till it was nice and crispy, then topped it with fried eggs. :)

I recently started cooking with leeks. Don't know why it took me so long. :)

That sounds tasty.

Why the dressing fail? Just didn't bake long enough or didn't taste right?

I know, right?

I discovered them about 4-5 years ago. I should have known about them 30 years ago but I don't think many Texans or Okies even eat or grow leeks.

No idea...I didn't make it. It was dense...too "tight", and didn't crumble.

I can make dressing, but had enough sense to stay out of the kitchen. This time.;)

I did quite a bit of cooking today. I made Cranberry-Orange Bread with Orange Glaze. As well as Potato Bread to go with Cocido Madrilena with is a Spanish stew of sorts with all kinds of meat, veggies and chickpeas.

Partytime!
Negroni and pretzelsnacks.
Venison fillet, pommes duchesse and a sauce made with red wine and juniper berries.
Apple and lingonberry crumble made with ginger, almonds and coconut oil served with custard or coconut cream.

I had tater tots for lunch, just in case we really are on the cusp of a potato famine. Can't be too careful.

Sonic?

There's only a couple in SoFlo close enough but still a pain to get to (they serve beer in them here!!!).

I miss a #1 with cheese

Both.
Just… both.

I’ve never had tater tots. It sounds yummy though.

I started work yesterday, so husband wanted to cheer me up with good food sunday. He made Tournedos Rossini and it was soo good.

Kids started school today, so they wanted a consolation dinner yesterday. I made them Kaiserschmarrn.

Today people will have to do their own cold smoked salmon and eggsalad sandwiches.

Those look amazing, Iris! :)

I had cheese fondue for the first time tonight. 10/10 would make again. I used champagne, gruyere, and fontina to make the fondue. I set out bread, yellow squash, steamed broccoli and carrot, mushroom, apple, and meatballs for dipping. It was lovely.

Thank you!

I like cheese fondue but can’t think of it without laughing.
We were at a housewarming party in the late 80s early 90s and had cheese fondue. They had spilled a bit of alcohol when filling the burner and after a while a fire started on the tray. We got the pot out of the way, put a blanket over the fire and moved the thing out in the snow on the empty balcony.
When we went back to eating, the cheese turned stringy and we ended up in a net of cheese strings. Great fun, but kind of a mess.

:) fun stuff. After having it I feel like I understand why it’s associated with parties now.

I made coffee jelly with sweetened condensed oat milk. I almost went out and purchased regular old sweetened condensed milk but decided to make my own with the oat milk I had on hand. No real taste difference and way friendlier on my tummy.
