What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

:) fun stuff. After having it I feel like I understand why it’s associated with parties now.

I made coffee jelly with sweetened condensed oat milk. I almost went out and purchased regular old sweetened condensed milk but decided to make my own with the oat milk I had on hand. No real taste difference and way friendlier on my tummy.

Tell me more about coffee jelly?

I made my wife’s favorite: Sheppards Pie. Classic Irish recipe but put in ground turkey for lamb. It was a good day for it too - cold and snowy and slushy in the northeast. Made dirty mashed potatoes for the topping.

It was damn good.

It was also part of a great day I had of being totally submissive to Miss Conduct. (She had me dressed up in garters and stockings while I prepped it. Then we had an amazing sex session. After that I baked it for dinner.

If anyone is interested in my depraved fantasies and what happened between me prepping the dish and me cooking the dish, read on:

Simple grilled cheese and tomato soup here. Got a few inches of snow during the day so it seemed like the perfect meal. :)

Soup weather here too. Potato soup with garden cress, bacon and cheese sandwich tonight.
Yesterday we had yellow pea soup with swedish punch and pancakes for dessert.

What’s “Swedish punch”, Preciousssss?

Sometimes spelled punsch. It’s a liqueur type alcoholic beverage that is based on arrak. 25% alcohol and 30% sugar, says swedish Wikipedia.
It’s traditional to serve with the very traditional yellow pea and pork soup. It’s also served as a liqueur with coffee and it is more or less mandatory to do so at formal student
/academic dinners. There are even songs to be sung while it’s served. i prefer the one sung to the melody of the waltz from The Merry Widow.
It used to be so popular that it even gave rise to a special kind of verandas, called punschveranda.

Mostly manufactured in Finland these days.

And, to me most importantly, used in and with Runeberg torte!

Last night was chicken paperkash (chicken goulash) over spaetzle.

I made it for my Hungarian American wife. She really liked it, so i must’ve made it pretty well.

Broccoli cheese soup with plain saltines. Just had a craving.

Actually cool enough to be soup weather today so it was perfect.

Believe it or not, I wore LONG SLEEVES and real shoes instead of fliflops when I went out today.

You always come through. :)

I’m trying chicken harissa for dinner tomrrow night. We’re having company and should be fun.

I had peanuts and tomato for dinner yesterday, because I’m sick and I was just too tired.
One child will make pasta with chick peas and the other sternly told me that I will eat with them today.

There have been a few posts about making bread rolls, does anyone have a recipe and method that works well for a beginner. I've never made any but would like to try.

It’s J’s birthday week, so I’m baking him a birthday cake.

Lemon, blueberry, white chocolate. It’s his favorite combo.

It’s been a long time since I’ve baked, so fingers crossed I come up with something edible.

The cake didn’t turn out perfect, because as usual, at some point I just got tired and bored with baking and couldn’t be bothered to make it tidy. But it turned out pretty good anyway and I’m sure it’ll taste really good. All of J’s favorite dessert flavors are in it.

Off to prep the Hasselback parsnips and trout now. People will soon be coming over to celebrate J getting older and to christen our new dining table.

It looks great!
Happy celebrating!
