What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

Roasted carrots, sweet potato and tomatoes, spinach, arugula, cashews, egg.

I completely ran out of sugar but still needed to make something to use up the blueberries, so I made mini cobblers with honey.

I pulled 5 potatoes out of the garden at lunchtime today. Sliced em thin, coated em in olive oil and put a mix of spices on top. Broiled them So they were crisp like potato chips. Served then with a ham steak and some raw peppers for dinner.

Wow, this sounds great! How nice to have such fresh produce. :) Do you have a large garden?

Those look great! Never was a baker so I am impressed by a great looking dessert

Yes- our garden is probably a total of 1/2 acre. It’s a lot of work but a labor of love! We have about 50 blueberry bushes and lease two Small plots of blueberries. I’m new to this site so once I figure out how post pics I’ll put some up.

Leftovers is what’s for dinner. Whatever is left in the fridge. I am in no mood to cook. Just thoroughly pissed off for no real good reason except that I am.

Another grey, rainy day.

Homemade beef chili simmering on the stove until J gets home in 4 more hours.

Cornbread mixings waiting in the wings. Butter softening on the counter.

It's 82 degrees today and only feels like 90. There's a difference in the air I can feel that says it's about time for the weather to change and cool down.

Chanterelle Croustade with a creamy chanterelle soup. Comfort food fresh from the forest. :)

Yum! I'm jealous but happy for you!

I love mushrooms so much. Searching for them in the forest, eating them, learning to identify new ones... Although this year I haven't had so much time to go mushroom picking and I haven't learned a single new one.

What's your favorite mushroom? :)

Mushrooms are fun to find! It's hard to pick a favourite because they're all so different. I love finding Blue Chantrelles. They're fairly rare here and the flavour is unlike anything else. Yellow and white chantrelles aren't hard to find. Sometimes I find pine mushrooms, morels, cauliflower mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, shrimp russala and lobster mushrooms. It's always fun finding new things.

Ooh, so many mushrooms I've never heard of! Off to google. :)

And yes, it's very difficult to pick a favorite. They are so versatile in flavor and texture!

It's a cool fall day, with drizzle on and off (although it's sunny now). SO it's Ham and Split Pea Soup with fresh cheese bread from the little bakery in town.

Please note, my Mother would insist that this NOT be referred to as "French Pea Soup" because she was from Northern Ontario and the pea soup is much better there.

I was craving poutine, but settled for chili cheese tots. What a marvelous, godawful mess! :D

We just discovered a single serving of a crescent dough sheet has less carbs than 2 slices of our normal sandwich bread.

Hooray! I made homemade "hot pockets" and satisfied the bread cravings for awhile.

I bet I could use it for faux Bierocs too.

So here's a really stupid question.

I've been wondering for a long time what "one carb, three carbs" and such mean. You post it a lot and I don't get how you can know that something is one carb and how such a thing can even exist? Is it the same as grams and ounces or cups and liters? I don't understand it. What does it mean? :D
