What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

I’ve had some cooking projects - largely because I feel like that’s what I’m supposed to be doing right now even though I actually have a job and family. Homemade cauliflower gnocchi, which was stupid to make because Trader Joe’s has a perfectly good version. I also made salted chocolate chip cookies again, which are yummy. I made homemade vanilla honey butter - great on warm rolls.

Also perfected some vegetarian street tacos. Which I wasn’t going to make this week but maybe now I will because when I just typed that, I realized I wanted them. Mmm

Thinking about it, I would be inclined to say that fries and homemade fries are like...slightly different sides and not just the homemade version being a better version of the industrial one. Not sure if this makes sense.

And overall, although I make a lot of stuff on my own, like sausages, I'm not fanatic about it, I need a "definable improvement" vs. store-bought. And at least the store-bought fries you get here are only made out of potatoes with sunflower oil - that's it. There isn't anything to improve by getting rid of additives or whatever.

I didn't mean this to be as snarky as it may have seemed. I was thinking of fajitas, where we always cook vegetables as part of the dish. To do veggie tacos I'd just cook some onions and peppers as for fajitas.

I don't feel like I need to make everything myself either. I was just wondering if you have such amazing knife skills or if you were using some appliance to get such uniform fries, that's why I asked. :)

I don't particulatly like fries (I think we've had this conversation before!), so I don't really have an opinion on storebought v. homemade fries one way or another. I'll happily eat them, but so far I've never had fries that would have left me feeling omg I need more.

I'll take oven baked potato wedges every time over fries, it's all about that roasty toastiness and condensated flavor for me.


I'm still trying to find a fun British dish to cook as my Y dish for the ABC country cooking thingy. Not that I've had time and energy to look around a lot. Soooo, if there's a British person lurking here somewhere, make yourself known please and gimme an idea! :)
 
Oh, and today's dinner will be sesame crusted salmon with veggies and maybe noodles, depending on if I feel like chopping enough veggies to make the dish without noodles or not. :p
 
Leftovers. Chicken tenders baked with butter and crushed, dry stuffing mix. Also mashed potatoes and green beans.
 
Grilled shrimp and pineapple on the grill with a butter/herbs/spice coating. :)
 
My country cooking continued with Y, and for that I cooked British fish pie, or a slightly localized version of it anyway.

It was pretty tasty! It was a cold, rainy and drab weather when I started making it, but the time it was done it was sunny and pretty. This felt more like rainy weather food. I'll definitely make this again later in the year. :)
 
Freshly baked bread rolls and marinated strawberries with creme fraiche and cookie crumbs for breakfast. Hey, it's Sunday, perfectly acceptable.

The rolls are soon ready to go in the oven!

Are we sharing? I was coerced into a 4 mile hike this morning at dawn so could use some extra calories.
