What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

I got a chunk of deer and elk today, so it's gonna be a meaty week for us.

I'm helping a friend process the buck he got. Today we did.. about a zillion sausages :D

Mister made an odd request. He asked me to make hot soba noodles with some of the leftover turkey. So I did.

Delicious looking as always! You even have those things in there! Those things I asked you about and now can't even remember what they are called

And why is that an odd request?

Sausages would be so good and making them is fun. :)

I got some elk and deer butt, minced elk and deer, elk liver and deer heart.

I cooked the heart yesterday, thin slices on a pan. Served it with mashed carrots and parsnips, sage, onion and port sauce.

It was yummy. :)

That sounds amazing. I was too tired to do much more than fry up what was left in the grinder, and add home fries :D

(Nice AV)

Looks strangely appetizing.
More appetizing than this human bread for sure;

(It's the holiday version of my original. :))
Thanks.
It looks lovely as your food always does. :)
Thank you. :) It tasted pretty good so I was happy.

Sausages are very interesting. This is a food I will probably never make. It looks yummy.

:) Narutomaki, fish cakes. Turkey isn't a commonly used meat in Japan. The request was specifically to make either a somen or soba noodle dish with the turkey. The meat I used was the leftovers of the leftovers so it was interesting. I guess it was really odd because turkey typically gets used for sandwiches or a noodle soup or more American style dishes and instead he wanted it Japanese style. He's a strange man. :p

Hat does sound good, seela. I've rarely cooked heart because the taste is a little to strong for me. Perhaps I should revisit this to see if there's something suitable.

Have you tried chicken hearts? They're really good and the taste is not strong.

The only thing with them is that I have to cut them rather than use as whole, even though they're so small that you easily could do that. When they're cooked whole, they remind me of fingertips with no nail and that's a little unappetizing. But when cut in half that problem goes away. :)

No, I'm not sure that I have. I know I've had chicken gizzards, but not hearts. Hm... I have never looked, but next time I'll check my grocery store to see if I can find some. :) The fingertip thing is going to stick with me now though.

 I've never made such ugly pies before. I'm thinking about keeping them and just buying pies to bring to the gathering. I accidentally threw away my veggie peeler again and didn't realize until I was ready to make the apple pie filling. I thought my dough would be ok while I did some things and got a new peeler, but it's no good. I'm sure everything tastes fine, they just look like a two year old constructed them.

Sweet potatoes were on sale today so I picked some up. I think I'm going to make sweet potato black bean burritos. It just sounds so good right now.

It does. I would love to try this.

:) I didn't know what I was going to do with the sweet potatoes but then I remembered someone (I think Primalex) posted a sweet potato chili. I also wanted flour tortillas so I decided to try making this. I have no idea if it will be good.

I'll want this butternut squash and ginger congee for breakfast once it gets... it's fucking freezing. What cool pictures! I have some rice already. 12oz of squash? I don't need "fish sauce" and will not be buying it. I randomly have everything else.

I like how they fried the ginger! There's a Vietnamese restaurant down... used to be down the street from where I lived that makes great avocado shakes, which is I make avocado protein shakes. The bakery makes better bahn-mi (sp?) than the restaurant though, which makes no sense. I like that they take PayPal and can place carryout orders. I do not need to be eating.

I will make something totally different.

Rhubarb chutney and mustard done, currently tackling the mountain of cookies I need to bake.

I'm making chocolate hamantaschen with apricot filling and lemon shortbread with white chocolate and lingonberry filling.

The hamantaschen are unusual for Christmas, I suppose, but hey, they're yummy. Besides Jesus was born in Israel, so it's kind of in theme. (I'm not gonna say Jesus was Jewish, because apparently that's a can of worms. Who knew.)

I mail cookie dough to the demons in the fourth circle every year. Just to mix it up a little.
These make frighteningly terrible cookies and are gluten free. If you + brown sugar, pecans, raisins and bring them in decorative little Chinese containers they're pretty good though. Right now I'm stuck holding a recipe for my mom's coffee cake (19 out of 20 homeless people agree it's the best) and want to bake something with almond paste and poppyseeds.

I have a bundt pan, muffin tins, a loaf pan and a brownie pan.

Tomorrow is my cookie baking day. I'm making chocolate butterscotch cookies, ginger molasses cookies and oatmeal cranberry chocolate chip cookies. I have to make a couple of individual packs and a tray or two.

The cookies sound lovely. I have decided I'm just not a fan of sugar cookies, the decorating bit. I really suck at it...

I made a simple casserole tonight, veggies and beet greens mixed with cream and parm and baked with egg noodles, topped with buttered crumbs. People chow :) Tasty, nutritious and simple. I needed something simple because my friend made me a bread pudding made from bignets topped with a rum sauce for dessert. Priorities :D

I get this monthly cooking mag. It has this recipe for beef bolognese that sounds so interesting. 1 hour instead of 3 or 4 tending a pot while it cooks down.

I'm just afraid it'll turn out like spaghetti sauce. Too bright and fruity instead of savory.

Today is Mount Cookie, day two, tomorrow I'll give them to people. I wanted to get the more laborsome cookies out of the way yesterday, so that I'd still have time to make more of them today if need be. But I got them all done yesterday, so now I have an easy day ahead of me.

Today I'm making the kind of cookies you bake first as a log and cut when they come out of the oven, so they're easy and fast to make. And hemp and flax snacks. Kind of like knäckebröd.

I suck at decorating too, so I go minimalist. Well, I'm very minimalistic anyways, so they're right up my alley. I go for taste. :p I use Christmas cookie cutters and then simply squirt a few lines of chocolate over them. White and dark. They end up looking festive enough.

The white chocolate filling I used for the lemon shortbread is purple because of the lingonberry powder I added to it. Using berry powder to dye white chocolate might work nicely for the decorations, too.
