What's cookin', good lookin'? Part II

I don't even need to hide the b

The gratin is a genius idea, but the reviews have me a little scared? I'm holding some "chicken of the woods" I could sub in for the oysters and chanterelles, but it's the last of this year and I don't want to fuck it up. Help! I need ideas!

Minestrone

Ok, so I'll just leave out the white wine and boil the scraps for a 1/2 batch before I feed them to the cat. No brussels sprouts (gross) and I have almost everything. I have (fairly good) cheddar, but which I will not use and will not buy cheese.

*abort-fail computation* grape Tic-Tacs replace grape tomatoes, no grapes. Buy canned tomatoes and scoop farro out of bulk bin. Use garlic powder. Don't have celery, do not need, hard to buy and reuse. Use *references* "cardoons" (sp?)

Maybe I will buy cheese. Will buy cheese. G/C on grape Tic-Tacs, prefer orange.

Hand made bread and pie?

Is the crust hand made?

I might need help.

I have a super secret pie crust mix recipe that is also super simple :) If you like, I will PM it to you. You can also buy a prepared crust, but I really like home made better

Super simple. Promise :)

Did you make a pie, Elle? How did it turn out?

Lyricalli, if you add the lemon, add the vanilla as well! Really magical. Did I say the entire pie was gone, and there were only four of us? :D

I like this recipe for winter squash soup.

It's better with acorn but butternut works great too. I substitute cream for the half and half because I like it richer and the cream makes it special. I skip the seeds and bread crumbs. I ain't frou frou when it comes to winter meals. Hot and filling is on the menu, not fancy. Serve with rustic bread rolls or a heavy sliced bread.

You really do need to have the trinity (celery, carrots, onions) on hand to make good food. If it's that hard to buy, then grow your own celery. You can even grow it in a window box with your herbs. No the celery seeds in the spice aisle won't grow anything. Buy some seeds from a garden seed house mail order and start your seedlings staggered by a week or two depending on how often / quickly you use them.

Fresh is best.

Wow... no, you didn't mention there were only four of you. :D I will definitely do both lemon and vanilla.

Any chance I could get that super secret pie crust? :rose:

Celery is a zombie veg - also known as a "cut-and-come-again".
Buy a bunch and instead of breaking the stalks off cut them off about an inch or two up. Pop the base in a shallow dish of water to start new roots, then pot with soil and it will re-grow it's roots and then more stalks to be used.

It's getting cold. Making a pot of potato soup loaded with bacon, garlic, onions, carrots, celery, and topped with cheddar after it hits the table with a side of toasted pesto asiago bread we got from the farmers market this morning...

I would LOVE a super simple pie crust recipe. I have been using frozen for years ;)

As posted in the PG and cuz I love you guys too, plenty for everyone....

Your thread makes me smile....

I'm bringing .....jalapenos, sliced in half lengthwise, with the seeds scraped out, cooked salad shrimp ( or raw cleaned shrimp, your choice really ) added to each piece, and a slice of real cheddar cheese. Finally, each wrapped with a piece of bacon. Cooked in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the bacon is done. Serve warm. There are about 30 of them. (pics to follow)

Two of them, I added the seeds back in. They will be HOT. And I didnt tell anyone.

I'll be bringing these. And some practical jokes to the party. Prepare to be publicly pantsed. ;)

Hi everyone. A warm nod to the host and hostess.

Yes, it's soup weather! Today was a baked goods day, though. It looked so good but we sold it all at a library fund raiser.... The moral is: Saturday is eating out day.

:) We took the turkey carcass home from Thanksgiving dinner so I'm making a large pot of turkey stock. I'll use part of the stock for leftover turkey soup and freeze a portion for use at a later time.

Also so small that I can't see what the text is exactly. :D

But I think I deciphered the right bubble. Morels are yummy, false morels too. :p

I guess I'll have to learn more about the new image-editing app I just acquired. This one is definitely much too small.

I will be happy to PM my super secret pie crust recipe to anyone who asks(ed) :) I'll send it sometime this coming week. Too much to do right now ! :(

Iced tea and garlic/herb chicken, mashed Yukon gold with white pepper and olive oil + organic peas. Raining hard today! Trying to get through this book.
