I prefer stewed prunes on my oatmeal, but am I missing out on some better treat?

Prunes? Pftfft, please!

Dried cranberries and walnuts are where it's at! :D;)

Perfect mix of sweet and tart. What's not to like?

EEEEWWWW! Why would you do that to a perfectly good bowl of cream of wheat? All it needs is a lil touch of sugar and *maybe* a touch of half and half. (Yes, I am a cream of wheat purist).

Hey! I didnt say one discouraging word about cranberries, did I!

I grow blueberries, so naturally I favor blueberries, but cranberries wont grow here so I figger its their own damned fault if I dont use them.

I know you didn't. That's just me, pimpin' for one of my fave fruits.

I use both the dried version and the semi-fresh ones. By semi fresh, I mean I buy extra bags at Thanksgiving and keep them in the freezer, all year long. That way I can get my fix whenever I want it. (Sound a bit like an addict, don't I?)

You sound sick and twisted and disturbed :)

Hello! Classic apple and cinnamon! What is wrong with you people? [laughs]

Wait.... are we talking rolled oats oatmeal? Or steel cut oatmeal? And made that morning? Or cooked overnight in the slow cooker?

Craisens, walnuts, and realdeal maple syrup. Accept no substitutes.

I like real maple syrup. I was raised on cane syrup but it aint something you come to for the first time, as an adult. Gotta start out as a baby.

Ok now that hurt. I have been called a lot of things in my time but an oatmeal fake? Of all the nerve. Besides I actually prefer grits so pfffftttt.

I prefer grits, too. So! If you like grits you cant be a fake anything, so I guess I'm wrong about you, and it sux to be me.

Mmmm.... grits. With cheese and bacon bits. *drool*

And don't worry, they don't know squat about oatmeal. Blech. Maple syrup, nuts, and craisins? Are they sure they are even eating oatmeal? Nuts, raisins and *shudder* craisins belong in trail mix, not yummy, creamy, delicious oatmeal.

Oatmeal should have cream and soft, flavorful fruits, like apples, peaches, and blueberries. Fruits that as the heat breaks them down they become wonderfully fragrant and spread throughout the oatmeal to create little swirls with the cream and pops of tart and sweet on the tongue. THAT is oatmeal. ;):D

I just thought of a fun thing to do with grits or oatmeal, and give em a flavor I bet the Old Quaker aint thought of!

We are not talking about waffle house grits by any means. I will not eat the instant ones.

I got a creek out behind the house, and I just planted corn, so maybe I oughta make up some corn meal and grits for us! All I need is some stone wheels.

Now you got me thinking about stew and I'm having a Carl Weathers moment.

Since we're all being random. Here is a random stew-related fact from the OED.

stew, n.2

3. A heated room used for hot air or vapour baths: hence, a hot bath. Obs. exc. Hist. or arch.

4. A brothel. (Developed from sense 3, on account of the frequent use of the public hot-air bath-houses for immoral purposes. Cf. bagnio n.)

Like Baila, cranberries.

Or half a banana with some ground walnuts (warm and gooey - better than a muffin).

Grated apple and cinnamon.

Cranberries and a touch of lemon zest. Believe it or not, this tastes incredibly light and fresh.

Sliced peaches and a splash of half-and-half.

Sliced strawberries.

Splash of real vanilla extract.

Drizzle of real maple syrup or maple sugar. But then again, I live in maple country and I refuse to consume the other kind.

Spoonful of brown sugar and a little cocoa powder.

Blueberries. Raspberries. Gooseberries, if I can get them.

Pears and some almond slivers.

Rarely, and this is usually in the deep of winter, I'll put some bacon bits with a drizzle of maple syrup.

And that's off the top of my head. I don't eat oatmeal all that often :D

Psst. I do the same thing ;)
