What would you...

#6. What would you if you were at a restaurant and there was a lady drinking a beer, while breast feeding her baby, at a table next to you?

I know for me, a beer helped my milk let down. If she was intoxicated, I might say something.

A single beer can actually help with breast feeding. I would hold my tongue. If she'd had several, I might question it.

On board with the whole single beer helps with the milk letting down perspective. And it can help with milk production, if I recall correctly.

So unless she's slogging them back double-fisted, meh.

I read the posts above and then ran off and googled it.
I wouldn't say a thing.

Before I read the posts and googled it...I wouldn't have said a thing either.

And to be clear, I didn't google it because I didn't trust the answers above me, in fact, basically, I assumed they knew more than I. I'm just always curious about what the "evidence" suggests.

I well remember taking bottles of stout into the maternity unit when my wife had given birth, and it was at the recommendation of the staff nurse.

One beer while breastfeeding in a restaurant? I'd smile without staring and say something complimentary.

Is this the start of a weird tits full-o'beer-fetish, my dear IHC? ;)

#7. You go to a restaurant that a close friend is working at. She informs you that she is giving you your appetizer and drink for free. When the main course comes you look down and see a strand of hair in it. What would you do?

I'm pretty sure the baby is getting buzzed with the mother. I think Dr's recommend waiting at least 3 -4 hr's.after consuming 1 beer\wine. But hey look at me I turned out just fine. Not like she's smoking crack. I don't really know that I'd do.anything. if there is any possiblity that the consumption of alcohol while breast feeding is going to affect my infants development I would abstain. I'm not saying you can't have a beer but maybe not at the same time you're breastfeeding. That's just me personally. I wouldn't do it. People are people and they'll do what feels comfortable for them.

First off I'd draw it out of the food and put it in a paper napkin or such, and get on with enjoying the meal. I'm pretty agricultural that way. And I'd let my friend know about it and leave it to her/him, rather than tell the management, just in case doing so would put her/him in a difficult position.

Oh hell no! My "close friend" is taking the main course back, screaming (OK maybe not screaming) at the cooks and getting me, her/his "close friend" a freshly made hair free dinner! And I'm only going to have to pay for my drinks. Cuz that's what "close friends do". I've waited tables and thats what I'd do & have done for my friends. But that's just me:)

I'm smiling, SweetSara, as I suspected that folks would react differently to me.

I guess it's what we can't see that troubles me, not least the officially sanctioned 'tampering' which goes on in the whole agri / food production chain.

Something which comes to mind with IHC's question: Back in the day when English pubs tended to have bowls of crisps and peanuts on the bar, for anyone to dip into. Testing of one bowl of peanuts revealed traces of seventeen different urines on them. So much for guys washing their hands after a pee when they're downing beer!

You've prompted a flood of questions in my mind and heart, aimed across the Atlantic Ocean. They are mostly heavy political and geo-political-survival ones which don't feel right in the Playground!

But allow me to go for one deep-undercurrent one which perhaps is unexpected:

Addressed to the Electorate of the USA. "Is there any possibility that persons of limited means might stand a chance of election to very senior office in your system of democratic accountability and government?" I guess I ask this having in mind the background of each of the women Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom: a grocer's daughter, and a vicar's daughter, and other prominent political figures in the UK and in Europe generally who have made major contributions in the legislature and in government. Would not US politics be a wholly other ballgame if middle income folk could get in there and win people's votes?

IHC, I love this thread idea and I apologise in advance if my question grows some kind of furious debate that belongs on another board. But I speak from the heart here as a European who loves Americans and ... and ... I'll leave it there my friend.

Margaret Thatcher was never 'just'a grocers daughter and her father was never 'just' a grocer. Believe me, I grew up in the same town as she did at points in my childhood...her husband was also a millionaire as is Theresa Mays...I see your point about middle ibcome politicians but these are not prime examples...

As to the original post...I'll have to think...it might be to the people who sent the kinder transport back to occupied europe...just 'what were their thoughts on hearing of the outcomes of that decision?

Change it up a bit.

#2. You are at a garage/yard sale and come across an item that is very valuable, but the seller is unaware of how valuable it is. They have it marked down very low. What would you do?

tell them...

I'd draw it quietly to her attention and ask for a new one, please...it happens and its horrible but why make a song and a dance about it?

Would'nt be for me to say anything.

Far better a hair then a cockroach. Hair is everywhere & it coulda come from anywhere so I don't see it as a big deal.

#8. What would you say, if you were asked to be in the bridal party of someone you don't feel you are that good of friends with?

Is it short and curly? If so, maybe she is trying to tell me that she wants to take this relationship to a new level!

#8. What would you say, if you were asked to be in the bridal party of someone you don't feel you are that good of friends with?

I had this exact thing happen when I was in my 20's. A work friend, but someone I didn't feel particularly close with, asked me to be one of her 4 bridesmaids. I wouldn't have even been surprised if I didn't get invited to the wedding because we weren't that close. But I said yes to being in the wedding in the surprise of the moment.

I quickly felt bridesmaid acceptance remorse and wanted to go back and change my answer. Mostly because I didn't want to have to lay out all of the money involved - I was struggling with my finances and didn't have several hundred extra dollars to spend.

But I felt guilty and didn't back out. As I went through the process, I learned a lot more about her and her situation. We grew closer as a result and by the time her wedding day rolled around, I was happy to be a part of it. We're still good friends to this day.

So you never know. :)
