What the fuck is up with the video game industry?

I'm an open guy. I like a lot of different things, and usually in several generes. I have fairly wide taste in literature, movies, art, and music. I even have fairly wide taste in video games. I only have one genre of video game that I do not like, and that's sports games. I just happen to think it's sort of a waste to play something that I could play for real if I really really felt like. Now what are all the video game manufacturers making? FUCKING SPORTS GAMES. Football, Baseball, Hockey... and it's all the same shit. Racing games too. We have made huge leaps in fucking technology for what? So we can have a really really nice looking Formula Fucking 1? Grow some imagination, dipshits!

This goes double for extreme sports games. I do not want to spend anymore of my time looking at Tony Hawk's ass than I have to.

My sons take great pleasure in 'Vice City'. I watched them...not real sure it is a good thing or not. they do have 'fun' though.

I tend towards (WELL MADE) RPG's and FPS's. Since they are so popular the market is saturated with cheap imitations or just plain garbage and I usually wait to read reviews before buying. I agree with you about the sports games.

It does seem that we're having to wait longer and longer for truly great games.

I like a well-made RPG. I just wish we got those once and a while.

And can they RPG people please just go back to the Fight/Defend/Special/Item Format please, and drop all this stupid other shit? What happened to simple element based magic? None of this fifteen colors of the rainbow that do weird shit in different combinations. Don't make me spend most of my time building up the characters just so the enemies are the same strength either. Here's a clue, I like to BUY my fucking weapons, not make them out of Dragon Scale and Hippogriff Feather and Crocktopus Shit. Make the bloody CHARACTER special. THey lose all personality if you don't.

i hate sports games too, but then, i don't exactly like football or basketball to begin with. but the extreme sports games, I have no idea how to skate/snowboard, so i find those somewhat fun. Aggressive Inline is my favorite.

But as far as my overall choice in games goes, i like ones that allow me to do things that i can't do or shouldn't do in real life, like steal cars, kill cops and aliens, and my personal favorite:

Annihilating hordes of Imperial Stormtroopers using nothing but a Lightsaber and the power of The Dark Side.

While this might be anathema to those of us who spend so much time online the simple truth of the matter is that sports games, amongst people who like sports, are the ultimate two player games. They feature trash talking to an unheard of level.

Plus you can't really, at two in the morning in the dead of winter organize an eleven on eleven football game. If I really wanted to I could shoot cops and innocent civilians too.

My wife divorced her ex because he was hooked on an online game called Everquest.....lol.....so now he sits in a trailer 15 hours a day pretending he is some ancient barbarian who casts spells and kills dragons.....he's 43 years old.....lmao.

Gran Turismo is about the only racing game I have ever liked. I never got into any of the other sports games. I do like Vice City though. I remember neting the original GTA and playing death match against my friends that kicked ass.

I think the gaming companies are trying to make thier product unique ... To be different & get the consumer hooked on said game. If they tried to make the interfaces the same ... then the comsumers are gonna say ... something like this ...

"Ho Hum ... this is just like playing FF. *yawn*"


But on the other hand ... sometimes its the corprate part of the company telling the programers & creative team ...

"We want a RPG like this ... you have this amount of time & money ... BTW it must be finish in 2 months."


So ... there are some half ass games out there ... that could have been great ... but Corp America is screwed.
