Twenty-one thumping inches of plasmatic love. Non-flatscreen (unfortunately).

And I pump the resolution up to 1600x1200...being near-sighted isn't so bad sometimes.
The problem with most flat panels is that they don't have that kind of resolution - yet. The other problem is that most of them are not fast enough for video (moving images) although a few are getting there. They sure are coming down in price though. Still, I think my next monitor may be a 21" CRT with 1600x1200 res - but it will probably be a used one as in a year or so I would like to convert over to LCD.

I have a dual monitor system, and currently I run a 17" CRT with 1280x1024 resolution, but I could run two displays with 1600x1200 if I want.

Me? I use a multitude of monitors, ranging from a 14" CRT to a 23" TFT. OK, so they're on about 5 different computers and I only use the 14" as a palette monitor in addition to the 23" when I'm doing photoshop stuff.

The main monitors I use when accessing Lit are the 1152x768 (16:9, like a cut off 17") on my Titanium Laptop and a 21" CRT on my Desktop G4 which I too have running at 1600x1200, just like WaxNWane.

:D

17" flatscreen at 1024x768 (would be higher res if the people I live with weren't blind)

Weird settings you have. The only 1152 x setting on my video card is 1152 x 864 and that's a 4:3 w to h ratio. You must have a very specialized video card to get the 1152x648 setting to meet the 16:9 w:h ratio.

Based on my rather limited experience, most video cards offer settings that are pretty universally 4:3.

This response is based on the wild preumption that you are using Windows 98 or a newer version of Windows. If not, ignore it.

Create yourself a user profile and define the profile as unique so each user profile can have its own unique desktop, start menu, etc. Then set the video resolution for your user to whatever you want. It should not affect the resolution settings in other user profiles.

Good luck.

Aaahhh there you go. For a start I'm using a Mac and secondly it's the Titanuim PowerBook. It has a widescreen format screen.

And just to prove it...

There are all kinds of variations - I have two weird settings on mine in its current setup 1280x480, 1600x600 - I think those may be for the dual monitor setup, but right now I have that disabled and it knows it. I think part of that has to do with what monitor it detects.

I've got a 21" standard CRT monitor that I picked up used for $300. Man, that real-estate is nice. My last apartment was too small for that kind of monitor. I run it at 800X600 resolution. I like things big.

I'm using XP and it won't allow different resolution settings for different users (as far as I can tell). Thanks though:)

Aha! The Mac explains the weird settings. However, basic arithmetic still tells me that 1152 x 768 is NOT 16:9. Were that the case, dividing 1152 by 16 would yield the same results as dividing 768 by 9 and these two problems yield significantly different answers.

Another way to state the problem is that if you divide the horizontal resolution by 16 and then multiply the result by 9, that will give you the vertical resolution for the 16:9 ratio.

The settings I gave (1152 x 648) is the 16:9 ratio.

Sorry to hear you can use that feature. I ran across it in Win 98 and thought it was quite nice. Unfortunately, I couldn't use it because NT 4 (my primary use OS) does not support it either.

It's a shame Microsoft dropped that feature. It was a nice convenience.

If I run across a means of doing it, I'll pass the info along. Meanwhile, just grit you teeth and go along to get along or show the other users how to change it and let them reset display parameters when they want to use the system :D I'm sure they'll be happy to set it back to your preferences when they're done, right.

Last time I did it I got screamed at big time... LOL
