What makes a post/thread valuable or worth posting? Is it because they are a member? Is it because they are a guest? Is it because they have been here a long time? Is it because the post/thread is on sex? Is it because the post/thread is about politics? Is it because the post/thread is about feelins/emothions? Is it because the post/thread is about life observations? Is it beacuse the post is about something funny someone found and would like to share with others.

What makes one persons post/thread more important than someone elses? Is it because they have perfect kings english? Is it because someone has 10 years of education? Is it because someone has 50 years life experince?

What makes perfect english more importnat than broken words and porr punctuation if it gets the point accross and the perfect english rambles on forever and goes nowheres? What makes 10 years of book learning more important that 5 years life experince? What makes 50 years of a settled life time more important, than 5 years of having to go from paycheck to paycheck, saving and scrimping trying to make ends meet enorder to stay heads above the water?

What makes one person better than another?

What makes one person better than another?

NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!

If you're seriously asking that, you really don't get it, do you?

No one is inherently better than anyone else because of any of the qualities you've mentioned. It's how you present yourself, and the way you conduct yourself while here...or anywhere for that matter, on or off line.

It's basic human dignity, the Golden Rule, if you will. Judge everyone individually.

And right now, Strange Girl, I'm judging that your handle suits you. :)

Ah, but obviously with the reaction to people on this board in the last month there is a hierarchy of who is better and who is less than better.

I'm really not so strange, I'm just like everybody else, I cut down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the Lavatory.

You can go on all day discussing the "n" word, or you can talk about techniques of fucking trees, or you can bitch, bitch, bitch.

I'd rather lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lic,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick,lick.

That's an individual thing. What I think is interesting and valuable, others (like Strange Girl) may not. Bob - you can't please everyone. My advice to you is to quit worrying about what other people think and just have fun. No matter what you do, there will always be someone who'll diss you - believe me, I get my share. So fuck it! Take it all for what it's worth, and quit stressing about it. That's my $0.02.

Yes, it is all about me!

I tend to value people based on what they bring out in me - do they make me a better person or do they bring out the worst in me. Everybody is intrinsically equal as individuals, just some folks have a more positive effect on those around them than others. It almost becomes a sort of relativity: with respect to my reference point, some people are better than others. But away from my reference point, the same hierarchy doesn't necessarily hold true.

So, for me, people value is more in those things like kindness, openmindedness, cleverness, etc. Being talented but using that talent to bludgeon or belittle others is more sad than admirable. So, from a thread standpoint, the best threads are those that bring a laugh or make me understand the world from a viewpoint I hadn't considered.

The answer is yes. All of the above.

I tend to pay more attention to posts that are at least semi-literate. i.e. spelled correctly and punctuated properly. That's because they are easier to comprehend.

We are communicating via the written word here. If words are misused, or misspelled, the meaning intended by the poster is warped, sometimes beyond all recognition.

As far as age or education is concerned, I have no way of knowing the status of either with regards to any given participant here. I can tell you that I'm 51 years old, and have the equivalent of an associates degree in electronics.

You on the other hand know only that is what I claim. Even the picture in my profile could be some old geezer I followed around Disneyland last year on my highschool field trip.

The point here, is that what makes one person better than another, is what they write, how they write it, and how others perceive what they've written.

What makes a good post, is content that interests the other visitors to this board. For me, that generally means something intelligent and thought provoking. Athough Never, Queen of Meaningless, tickles my funnybone every now and then.

What makes a bad post, is one that is off topic, insulting, hostile, or adds nothing to the conversation.

What makes a bad poster, is one who stalks another by replying to every post of another with sexual inuendos, ragardless of the content of the rest of the thread. Especially after repeated rejections and requests to lay off.

A bad poster is also one who attacks the person, and not the content when replying to a post that upsets them.

A good poster is one who contributes to the content of a thread. Someone who has interesting, relevant things to say. Someone who doesn't post every time a neuron fires, but thinks about what they're posting.

Sometimes, the content of a thread is meaningless drivel intended only to amuse or confuse. Often the content of a thread mutates into a silly auction or futile attempt to kill the never-ending thread by adding to it. That's all good fun. Sometimes a thread is a serious debate with no place in it for sexual inuendo, even on a site dedicated to erotic stories.

The bottom line, is what makes a good thread or a bad thread, is what the other members of the board post in reply to the starter post. If it has a lot of participation, and mutates gradually if at all, then it's a good thread. If it degenrates into name-calling, bitching, or a off-topic chat session, then it's a bad thread. i.e. no longer interesting. Every user has to decide what constitutes interesting for themselves. What interests me, won't necessarily interest Laurel, Lasher, Golden, you, or anyone else.

What makes a post valuable?

LOL! You do that, too?

Why is the sky blue mommy? Why do I have five fingers instead of six? Is there water on mars? What happens when I try to stick this paperclip in the light socket? Why won't you let me put the clip in the socket?

Where do babies come from? If you eat a watermelon will you have one? Why does my tummy hurt? Why can't I have a spider as a pet?

My tummy really hurts now. Why is that? Why are dogs so furry? Why is water wet? If I dig long enough can I reach China? Do they walk on their heads in Ausss..ausss..Japan?
Ohhh, my tummy hurts real bad. I think I'm gonna yak.

Killer!

But could this just not be your perception Bob, of the what you have seen in your time on the board? No one is better than any other. I can understand that when someone is new here, and some of their actions irritate the more regular members into coming down hard on them, that they can perceive the attitude that some of the regulars think they are better than the newer members, but that is not true.

Here, as in real life, when someone new shows up and attracts a lot of attention to themselves they are going to be noticed. That is a fact of life. What kind of attention they attract to themselves though, is up to that new member. If that new person comes in here with well thought out responses, gives them in a non-threatning polite way, they most likely are going to be accepted without much grief.

However, if they come in here with loud, obnoxious manners, with an attitude that they are going to outpost everyone while not adding thought out responses they are going to be treated accordingly. If I were to enter your own private world, where you and your friends hang out, how would you treat me. Most likely you would treat me as I presented myself. If I come in yelling, demanding attention well I probably will not be well received. However, if I come in with a more polite demeanor, then I think I would stand a much better chance of being accepted by you and your friends.

And that is how literotica is. People who have been here longer than you, or me, are most likely more comfortable with each other. Just as in real life, people here get to know each other. They get to know the particulars of each other. Each others pet peeves. What they like. What they don't. Its a process of getting to know each other. It doesn't mean everyone is going to get along, nor is everyone going to like you or me, but I think if you treat people with respect and dignity, you will be treated very much the same way.

Some people are better than other people. I believe that. As an extreme example, most people are better than Charles Manson. I understand where you're coming from, Nicole, and I love you for it, but not everyone deserves your respect and kindness. <winks>

RonG, I feel exactly the same way. I have one friend who brings out the best in me. I'm kinder, funnier, more honest, more reliable, a better teacher when I'm around her. My sister is the same way. Both of these women are people I aspire to be like. Isn't there some saying about "the company you keep?"

Weird Harold, great to see you around again. Excellent post.

Laurel, I agree with what you said too.

Hey, I take offense to that.

Hey, don't do that! You're only adding to my Nazi image! :p
