What is the most unbelievable fact you know of?

No, but I'm sure it's true. I wasn't speaking in absolutes, just generalities. Women are pickier than men, in general.

I'd really dislike a general as a boyfriend.

A kind, caring, funny, sweet man with a sense of confidence and a lot of caring? Yeah.

Oh I'll have a counseling session on this thread, yes I will. I don't give a fuck.

Glass is a supercooled liquid.

Over time a pane of window glass thickens at the bottom because of the flow.

It takes a few hundred years.
now that's fascinating and news to me. i love this site!

The pyramids in Giza were built, and cannot be replicated today.

I wonder what the cost would be today if it could be replicated.

10k gold

the least gold mixed with the most 'other metals' that can still legally be called 'gold'

That's also known as dental gold.

i didn't know that either! don't any patients have problems with reactions to the other metals or are they all kind of neutral? (obviously i don't have a clue about this stuff, 'swhy i'm askin')

Well, I think gold in dental applications is pretty infrequent these days. I believe that man-made materials are more common now. Back in my parents' time, the cheaper alternative to gold was dental amalgam, an alloy containing mercury!

Jellyfish.
No heart, blood, lungs, liver, eyes, brain, etc.
Basically just a digestive bag within an outer bag.

Following Warrior Queen I just had to add some little known facts about the platypus which exists in Tasmania:

1. When a dead specimen was received in England, the biologists thought it was a practical joke because no animal could look like that.

2. It is a mammal that lays eggs.

3. The male has a poisonous spur on its hind legs - so they are duck-billed egg-laying poisonous mammals (the egg-laying ones aren't poisonous!)

Sir Henry Morton Stanley (he of 'Dr Livingstone I presume?') was born Welsh, served in the Confederate Army at Shiloh, the Union Army and the Union Navy, helped found the Belgian Congo, married a Welsh woman and became a Member of Parliament.

When he returned from finding Dr Livingstone, the Royal Geographical Society, to its enduring shame, refused to accept that an American journalist had found Dr Livingstone (whom they claimed wasn't lost anyway!).

In what became the Belgian Congo it was maintained that Stanley had "only been responsible for the death of six or seven hundred negroes....and all these negroes fell as the result of attacking Stanley."

Platypus are generally much smaller than people think.
Females are between 40 and 50 cm, and weigh an average of 900 grams.
Males are between 50 and 60 cm long and around 1700 grams (although our tassie male platypus have been weighed in at up to 3 kg.)

Just don't pick them up by their back legs to check whether they are male or female.

You'll get peed on...

That is not really a fact, is it? Mr winkler during his live has mainly had a stable 'warm' temperature.

Enola Gay should have stayed at home yesterday.

Heyyy .. are you a crossword puzzle fan by any chance?

Unbelievable Fact...

Light is a wave that acts like a particle, and the other way around.

Wow! I didn't even know that; thanks for the information, phrodeau! How about this unbelievable fact: Minister Louis Farrakhan has played in classical music orchestras with White people...and other races of people as well - or - Malcolm X used to date White women and even worked for a White madam.

Relative to body size the animal with the longest penis is the whelk.....if a human was endowed to the same proportion the average male would have an 8 foot penis.

Queen Elizabeth II has an impressive pedigree.

Of course it includes Kings and Queens from many European countries.

But her full ancestry, rarely publicised, apparently includes her descent from Julius Caesar and through him the Goddess Venus. She is also descended from Vikings, and the Danish/Saxon Kings of England, and through them the Norse God Woden.

She is the Head of the Church of England.

PS. According to Ancestry.com, my maternal ancestors also include the Norse God Woden, but NOT Julius Caesar. My paternal ancestors fought Julius Caesar's legions in what is now Belgium, defeated them, but had to escape across the North Sea to England when Julius returned to take command of the Roman troops.

If I wanted to, I'm sure I could. But I have some flaws that, while difficult to discern initially, would derail any attempt I made at having an adult relationship.

Don't be daft
If you didn't 'want' to form relationships with adults you wouldn't be here.

What about mates? I'm assuming one or two people find you barely tolerable.
Relatives perhaps?
Pet platypus?
