I have been told what a proper hot dog is but now that I am going to post she says she does not trust me. That I will post this debate and she will not tell me. Now, does she know me or what?

Ok, a proper Hot Dog is an Italian Hot dog. 2 hot dogs on a bun with Onions, peppers, potatoes and plenty of mustard.

So what is your definition of a good hot dog. Sexual parts not included.

Edited to add the forgotten potatoe's.

A proper hot dog has this dear Tiger...

Soggy bun,wienie,mustard,chili,and onions. Got it?

Geesh I need to distract you with some phone nooky to keep you from posting like this I guess. :D

Yes this is a serious thread

Yes, I thought it might be a good non sexual thread. So, any one willing to put down their likes and dislikes for hot dogs.

I already have a dissenter.

Oh, right on! , LTR. Does it get any better than that? I don't think so! :D

bun with sesame seeds, vegetarian sausage (I dont eat any other kind of sausages), sauerkraut, loads of onions, a touch of fresh chilli, mustard and some red pepper culee. :D

You're all making me hungry!

Hotdog: bun (no sesame seeds), yellow mustard, all beef hotdog, onions, relish

Bratwurst (I prefer these to regular hotdogs): brat, whole wheat bun, hearty brown deli mustard, onions

Dont encourage her.... sheesh.

LittleDevilWithAHalo: A hot dog with out a hot dog. Ok that sounds good to try.

From where I am......we have this "good" fast food place
called Duchess that's been around for years.......they
make a terrific "hot dog with the works": footlong with
mustard, sauerkraut, bacon bits all on a bun! And right
here in Fairfield CT, there's this little bitty place that looks
run down called Rawley's.......the BEST dogs in town!

I enjoy grilled hotdogs the best, with mustard and baked beans.

I also enjoy Nathan's "special" tasting ones, and ones I had up at a hockey game in Montreal years ago (flat toasted bun with relish).

Being a New Yorker though, I must admit that I occasionally crave the "dirty water franks" in the pushcarts with mustard and sometimes saurkraut! (I don't CARE what's in them!!) Just imagine that our former Mayor Rudy tried to get rid of them in the theatre district!

Bibphi, please stop talking about those convenience store hot dogs. Thanksgiving day I was driving home to Tn and nothing was open. I had Jiffy hot dogs for lunch, I hadn't had them in at least 10 years.

Steamed bun, hot dog, yellow mustard, chili, and onions. It was wonderful and pathetic all at the same time.

Hotdog stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, on a bun with mayo ketchup, mustard, covered in chili, with onions on top.

Might sound icky, but its great!

The perfect Hot Dog...

All beef, from a pushcart somewhere, anywhere. Spicy mustard, relish, and maybe melted cheese. Oh yeah, and a plain ol, supermarket brand bun. I just made myself SOO hungry... :(

the perfect hot dog

Soggy bun, wienie, mustard, chili, cole slaw and onions.

Hot dog with chili and cheese, mustard, and cole slaw. Onions are optional, depending on the mood.

Deeelicious!

i can't eat hot dogs :( they give me vicious migraines. but when i could, the perfect one had relish, yellow mustard and ketchup on a bun.

It is soooo easy........

All of the above........I am hungry now tooooo......:p Great place is Fathers and Sons in Jersey.....

I was not ready for all the great responses....

to this post. So many variations. I may just have to try each to see which is the truely proper Hot Dog. Hmmmm.

seXieleXie: i can't eat hot dogs they give me vicious migraines. I went through this too many years ago. Luckily I tried different brands and found out it was one or two brands that did it to me. I cant even recall what brands they are any more. It has not happened for some time now. Hope you tried this. I wouldnt want you to miss out on something.

What Rudy tried to get rid of them? I didnt know that. I also didnt know you were a NY'r. I am from Bellmore, LI, 4 north of Jones Beach. Does the river still form on the beach in the evening? It has been too long since I've been back. I have to take LTR on a romantic walk there. Maybe with a Hot Dog as we walk. lol. Presently in the Parsippany NJ area. (Dont move to NJ, Ive warned you!!!)

Icky? Nope!

Damn, just makes me want to go out and try it. Well, I suppose I have to tie my sailboard to the top of the Jeep and go to RI and stop here along the way.

So, Many great suggestions. More more more. If you want to mention the establishment be my guest.

My perfect hotdog has a nice warm soft roll, sausage, grated cheese and pineapple pieces.....Mmmmm yummy!

Strange But True ....

Since I moved to Rhode Island .... I have discovered a very strange ( but good ) type of hot dog.

Bun
Something called a hot weenie ( reg hot dog if ya ask me, but Rhode Islanders swear they are different)
a secret recipe ( I SWEAR this is true ) meat sauce on top
onions
celery salt

This strange phenom is a tradition apparently not found anywhere else in America. They are really quite good.

MY personal fav:

Bun
Hot Dog
yellow mustard
catsup
onion
relish

If you leave off yellow mustard and catsup and relish but add sauerkraut and chili ..... then you have my other fav type.
