What inspires you?

I just finished watching one of my favorite movies. "The Emperors club," I came out inspired to finish a piece. What inspires you? What sends chills through you?

Art?
Song?
Porn?
Sex?
Rain?
George Bush?

When the rainfall is heavy and the mid-day skies are dark as night, I get a surge to write. The same happens when certain jazz songs come on.

When I hit slumps, small things trigger periods of writing sprints:
something someone said
A picture or article
...this one is terrible and I'm not condoning anything..but, wine opens me up tremendously and gets things moving. So long as its not an entire bottle

A fat bottle of domestic port always inspires TEX. It talks to him. Reminds him of old times best forgotten and what good times there are on a garbage barge that services oil platforms.

A lot of times, initial story inspiration comes from a photo that looks like it has a good story behind it, or a real-life event that could have gone another way.

Hmm, often a certain song will inspire me.

I'm not into art and I never watch porn, or any movies, so they're out.

Um, George Bush? Politics? Never.

I write quite a bit of non-fiction, though. Inspiration for that comes from my past.

What inspires me? Anything.
A post mentioning an upcoming contest has inspired me on two different occasions.
Wondering what could possibly make a werewolf sexy inspired me.
Dreams have inspired me.
Theodore Sturgeon's stories inspired me. Ditto to Heinlein, Lovecraft, Howard, Burroughs (E.R.), etc.
A Rush album has inspired me (Hemispheres).
Children's stories have inspired me.
Two books my wife was reading and I happened to look through when I was bored have inspired me.
My wife has inspired me. Maybe I should have put her at the top of this list...
Reading a couple of terrible stories on this site inspired me.
Reading some of the stories by decent to great authors on this website inspired me.
Conversing with my editors has inspired me (they laugh at me a lot less than I thought they would...).
etc. etc.
Oddly, porn doesn't inspire stories in me.

Music is my main inspiration as it puts me in the right mind frame for writing. I am also fortunate enough to know several fine songwriters so that helps as well.
I've been inspired by real life, random happenstance and certainly by fantasy.

Reading the comments on my already-posted stories often does the trick. It makes me want to act upon the encouragement and be even better next time.
