What inspired you to start writing erotica?

When I started reading stories on Literotica there weren't too many that were set in the past, and many that I did find I wasn't keen on.

So I started writing my own stories set in the past, and while some of my stories are set in the present day most of them are set years earlier - the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.
I'm pretty much unhooked from current reality and thought so I mostly exploit 1970-2005, after minicomputers but before smartphones. Some stories are timeless or primitive; some are definitely 1450 or 1890 or 1940; some just suggest a period and region. Each space-time node wears its own attitudes and limitations... which we can squeeze for drama and twist for effect. A story of 1925 Hollywood demands certain flavors.

Meanwhile, starting to write pr0n was easy, but restarting is hard. Dang.

First, it was hooked on reading. From there I went to writing. Pages and pages at times as a teen. I believe I got into the erotica of it all when a few ideas bugged me into putting them down.

Unfortunately, life likes to throw me curve balls which frequently means I don't write these days. I've got something that I think I have its pages on here. Except it's been an in-progress since I was young and stupid. Nowadays I merely feel stupid, and it's still sitting where I left it.

Inspiration

First read was 70's porn magazines. Short stories.
Then writing letters to girlfriends I had.

The main inspiration was finding and Anaïs Nin book.
Hidden on a shelf of an apartment I was renting.
It belonged to my female landlady.
Delta of Venus and then Little Birds... they blew my mind.
Short concise and to the point.

I've been writing on and off for... I'd say about 5 years now? More or less. Started out with regular fiction on some site where people shared their work. Got a lot of empty phrase, but quickly outgrew it as no one was able to actually give me some useful feedback that helped me improve my writing. I did meet my best friend and writing buddy/critique partner there though, so it wasn't all for nothing.

After both of us left that site we mostly wrote for each other, sending stories back and forth and giving feedback, both improving our writing considerably in the progress. We started writing a roleplay together because we were bored, which kind of accidentally turned into an ERP. We were a bit awkward about it at first, but it's still going and prominently features sex scenes at this point, so... guess we got over that, hahaha.

In the meantime, I found this site and started reading some stories every now and then. Finally joined the forum about two years ago and started talking to other writers. My writing buddy and the people on the site we started out on always seemed to find my feedback really helpful, so I decided to offer my services as a volunteer editor on here. Then I got in over my head, drowned in requests, didn't know how to say no, and in combination with real life I sort of burned out and quit the site for a long time, only recently having returned. I'm now taking a bit more care of myself with the editing requests, but so far the demand for it seems to be a lot lower than it used to be two years ago.

Anyway, through the ERP I discovered I really liked writing graphic sex scenes, and thanks to the editing work I did on here I realized I should at least be able to write similar stories with my current level of experience. I toyed with the idea of actually writing a proper erotic story of my own for a while. I started a few but abandoned them halfway through. Now I've finally decided to go for it and am working on my first proper story (an entry for the Nude Day contest), which is turning out longer than I planned but I hope to be able to finish it before the deadline.

I forgot to mention another source of inspiration for writing stories: my phone, and sexting. After I got divorced and started dating again, I discovered how smart phones had changed communication in the dating scene. One girlfriend in particular was into sexting/role playing, and I found it was a lot of fun graphically describing sexual encounters. It was so much fun I thought I might as well write a whole story with graphic sex scenes. So I did.

Every time I would sit down to attempt to write fiction, it turned into porn. I hoped that writing all this stuff down and getting it out of my system would help me move on to writing brilliant mainstream fiction.

I think it's working. I have this great story I'm working on now about...oh, dammit! It's turned to porn.

Kidding aside, I had enjoyed reading stories on this site for years and years and wanted to try to give something back by sharing my own stories. It has been fun, and outside of the obvious turd blossoms, the rest of the readership has been awesome and supportive. Likewise, I have gotten loads of helpful advice here from veteran authors. It feels a lot more interactive now than when I was just an anonymous reader.

Found Lit and enjoyed the stories.

One day a story popped into my head and wouldn't leave until I wrote it. Interestingly, to me at least, it took an unexpected crossdressing turn and it became a lather, rinse, repeat experiment that people seemed to enjoy.

From there I branched out to all sorts of other stories and styles. Been fun!

You too? I mean, I had characters that just started having sex right in front of me. I wish they wouldn't hi jack the story like that.
