Tricked ya! A little anyways:

I thought it would be fun and informative if people listed what jobs they have had/done in their lives. I will start with mine:

When I was a kid I worked on the farm, harvesting berries and nuts (walnuts & filberts), cultivating crops, driving tractor and so on.

As a teenager I worked in the canneries doing various jobs (loading cans, etc.).

As an adult I was:

A microfilm technician in a state library.
A mechanic.
An assembly worked in mobile home factories (mostly carpentry, but some welding).
A shit shoveler in a mushroom cultivation plant (worst job I ever had).
A furniture delivery person.
A tree sorter in a nursery.
A Machinery Tech/Petty officer in the Coast Guard.
An agircultural machinery mechanic.
A parts counter person in an agricultural equipment dealership.
A computer store repair tech.
A field test tech for a communications equipment manufacturer.
A Software Quality Assurance Engineer.

And I am now a Software Engineer.

My first job was at Dunkin' Donuts
Gymnastics Instructor
Retail clothes clerk
file clerk
secretary
office manager
furniture sales
law clerk for various firms during undergrad
now Insurance Sales

i done loads of shit jobs, supermarket, worked in a hotel etc etc

Wow STG, I thought *I'd* had a lot of jobs!

I've been....

A bartender
A security guard (just me and 300 men.....Woo-Hoo!!! :D )
A paramedic/Firefighter

And now I'm an accountant.

Well give it a while; I've had 47 years to do lots of different things. When I was young, had no experience and no real education, Oregon was not a place where you kept any one job for a long time. There were a number of others I forgot to list including being a Choker Setter (the guy who wraps cables around logs so they can be hauled up a hill to a landing where they are then loaded on a truck to go to a mill).

While in college I decided I didn't want to always be in back breaking poor paying work, so I got my EE and decided to use my brain to get jobs. From then on it has been pretty smooth sailing.

My first job (only one so far)
from 19 till 21(well i quit last year but they keep telling me i still work there... hell i even got summer vacation pay 8 months after i quit) worked in the metal shop at chryslers building the body of vans.

Job number 2.... (I'm an architect but noone is hiering.. :( )

but i'm still young still

I'd like to hear how you ended up working in mushroom cultivation!?! :D

My first job was a summer job at Hardees...to this day, I don't eat there

after that, there was:

nursing assistant
purchasing/supply
staffing coordinator
office manager
unemployed but still a mom

today was my physical, so i'll let ya know next week if there is to be another job added to the list :)

I worked at an ice cream place and a stable while in high school
in college, i was a receptionist at an engineering firm and as a night supervisor at an office supply retailer
when i got married i worked as a receptionist/ad layout person for a food franchise
worked at kinkos and back at the same office supply place when we moved back to missouri
owned my own graphic design company
worked as a civilian graphic designer for the navy
shoveled shit and trained horses at a stable
now i'm an assistant manager at a convenience store

In high school. I did the whole weekend waitress thing and wokred after school in a hospital kitchen. Did the whole babysitting thing quite a bit too. I don't think I ever was home. :)

After graduation, I took a job in a cabinet shop and spent 5 years building wine racks and drawers and various other stupid, supposedly space saving kitchen things. Job sucked, but then I got pregnat, moved and got married.

That was the last "real job" I did. Since then, I've been a full time mom, and I do babysitting on the side, since I stay at home. It's a great life if you can get it. I love staying in my flannel jammies on a cold winter day. :)

Jobs

Not many,

Boatbuilder,
Soldier,
Civil Servant(UK Inland Revenue).

Since I retired 1993,just bumming around.

In Salem, Oregon there was a mushroom "factory" that was always hiring because no one wanted the jobs. When you are unemployed and trying to feed a family you will try anything once.

So I went there and they put me to work shoveling out the compost that resulted from growing the mushrooms (very rich compost that they sell). Very hard work, but okay. Then they put me to work mixing up the hay, manure, ammonia nitrate and straw that goes into the beds where the mushrooms grow. That was easier and okay work.

Then they put me to work in the buildings themselves shoveling in the mixture into the beds. I lasted one week doing that before I quit. The mixture sits outside for a week or two and then they put it on a conveyer belt to move it into the buildings. This mixture is very hot and it smells like urine (the ammonia nitrate and manure), and even though they have big fans running all the time, it is like 150 degrees in the building (I have seen the temp guages there go that high), and the moisture is coming off the mixture - it is like being in a steam room breathing hot piss. All of my clothes were stained yellow. I quit after a week because Icould take it any longer - I found a job picking cherries instead.

Just to list a few.

Secretary: family business

Intake receptionist: for drug rehab center

Dispatcher/ Records Clerk: Sheriff's Dept.

Owned one of the above mentioned video stores for 3 years. I inherited it when my father died. (Got tired of being a slave to it, so i closed it down)

just so we are clear I've never been fired from any of these places they all still want me back (well the places I'm not working at)

Babysitting was first, of course. Back then parents handed you their 3 kids when you were 12 years old. They could go out for hours and still get change back from a five.

I started working on my dad's boats when I was 13. He is a commercial fisherman and at that time was mainly doing sea urchins. I was a deckhand and cook. Hard work, but I think that builds character in kids. Plus, it was fun being out on the water in the summer. My stepmother and I used to sunbathe when the divers were down. :)

Carl's Jr. (for 3 days)
Movie theater "candy girl"
Receptionist
Secretary
Process server (I just loved being called a whore every other day - not!)

Stay at home mom for the last five years and, Cherry, I'm wearing my flannal jammies today. :)

Life is good!
