i don't know if this is an absurd question or not... but i'm throwing caution (and my clearly spotless reputation as an intellectual and respected lit-member  ) to the wind and asking it anyway.

we all read each other's typed posts... and we can suggest some vocal inflection and whatnot with various type styles... but i'm curious to know what we all sound like so as to get more of a conversational feel out of our posts.

speaking for myslef, i have had a LOT of people tell me that i sound like nicholas cage, al pacino or rolf (yeah, the muppet, not the IM abbreviation). when i get angry, my "R's" get more lazy... i sound more brooklyn-ish.

Hard to explain, really.

I hate my voice. It's not at all like my writing style, which comes from being a former English major and writing stuffy academic papers in grad school.

My voice is not too shrill and it's not too deep. It's Southeastern Ohio Appalachian twang with 2 1/2 years of living in the Cleveland area thrown in for good measure. (That probably makes NO sense whatsoever!)

I HATE to hear a recording of myself.

*edited to say that, at the moment, I have a nasty cold, so my voice is nasal and hoarse. Ewww!

Is this some crazy (and creative) solicitation for phone numbers? ;)

I've lived in the Seattle area for most of my life, so there's not really an accent, and my voice never been compared to a well-known person. People seem to notice my diction though, like the way I say the 't' sounds in buttons or cotton. It's middle of the road on pitch, but has a lot of inflection. Sometimes I'll catch myself saying certain things, and realize I sound exactly like my mom.

I sound like a australian at times, if I am talking in english a lot. But if I've been with friends and family, watching tv, movies and songs all in chinese, I tend to pick up a bit of a accent.

I have a pleasant voice, It's not a annoying high pitched type of voice or anything(no horrible laugh either thank god), I've been told many times that people get lost in my conversations sometimes, that my voice has a soothing/peacefull kind of quality.

you're not the only one... i think if you listen to yourself often enough you get used to it. let's face it, if we all sounded as stupid as we THINK we do, no one would tolerate listening to us at all.

hey! this could explain some of my problems! lol.

What everyone always says to me is that I sound young (but then again, they say I look young as well). So, mine is really just the shy little girl type voice...but, you'll be able to hear it and judge for yourselves as soon as my audio story posts (oh, what a shameless plug that was, hehe).

I have a very peculiar voice. Kind of a baritone that changes quality depending on my mood. It can go from velvety and seductive, to gravelly, to an outright snarl. So, sort of like my appearance, my voice would be suited to a Gothic novel villain.

I can't really sing in the conventional sense, though I can do harsh vocals like Children of Bodom or Norther. I can also mimic most accents if given a few minutes to listen to them and have developed a few character voices.

In other words, my voice is pretty cool, but really weird too.

Interesting that you should bring this up, EJ... I play a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game called World of Warcraft, and just recently began using a program called Teamspeak to communicate via microphone with other players. It certainly beats typing in the midst of face-paced action, and it's fascinating to have a voice to go with each online personality I play with. I guess our brainwaves are in sync or something.

Like Eilan, I hate my own voice. I've been told by a number of people that I have a very sexy voice, and I'm trying to understand why they think so... but I just can't stand listening to myself (either from first-person perspective, or a recording). My voice isn't too deep or high-pitched; it's sort of normal-toned. Also, like Eilan, I have a degree in English and I do tend to type/write more articulately than I speak. I don't really have any sort of accent, unless you get me really angry or excited... then my r's disappear and out comes my Woosta accent (Massachusetts-speak for Worcester, which is an ever-so-slight variation of the Boston dialect).

bi: i can't listen to that file again, it makes me feel like a dirty old man. you have a sweet speaking voice and sound like you're 16 to my ears. i might have to mentally categorize you as a little sister after all.

my own speaking voice wavers between a baritone and tenor, depending on my mood. diction isn't generally one of my strong suits, i find. i speak quickly as well, so i find myself repeating myself now & again. although i've lived in new jersey all my life, i neither sound like former governor jim florio nor a soprano. if you heard me talk, i'd sound more or less like anyone you hear on a sitcom.

that said, i've been told in the past that i have a sexy voice.

hehe, I knew it. People have been telling me now that I don't sound like a little girl after all...and I was starting to believe it. *laughs* oh well.

well, that's true, but hey, i'm just one guy. :> bi, i'm 34. for me, that's just too big an age gap to let me listen to it. others will feel differently, though.

Okay, I get the point, hehe. I'm gonna have to deal with being the little sister and not a sex goddess *giggles*. :)

yeah, just so you know, i'm gonna have to stop posting to your am pics thread, now...

[sighs]

[feels awkward]

[pokes bi in the ribs]

You suck, hehe, being all morally concious or whatever. :) But, oh well, I don't want to make you feel like some dirty old man.

*laughs* I'm sure my boyfriend would love to record tickling me, he does it enough, hehe.
