Poll, wait for it.

The governor is being refused service by a local businessman because of her stance on gay marriage.

"No trim for you."

What's your vote on the issue?

"We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

She needs to get the fuck over it.

Discrimination, as defined by law, is about excluding categories of people, right?

If I think an individual is a dipshit, I can deny him or her service. Dipshit is not a protected class.

Not a legally protected discrimination issue.

He has the total right to tell her to get lost

IMO, this is a case of, "Turnabout is fair play." Her political stance is to deny this man and his partner of 15 years the right to marry. His right as a business owner is to deny her service. Maybe it's petty of me, but I wouldn't want to associate with her on a business level. And, at least he didn't butcher her hair out of spite. I can't say I wouldn't have been tempted.

What if the governor's views are the result of her sincerely held religious beliefs?

What if she refused service to Chinese people?

You can't deny service to someone on the basis of protected class (i.e. race, sex, sexual orientation, age). There are some exceptions, obviously (no showers for a certain sex, etc).

Please not that I did not say that protected class members are exempt and must be served. I said they cannot be denied on the basis of their protected class status.

Imagine the reverse uproar if the Gov was in a lesbian 15-year relationship, had championed gay marriage through the legislature...

...and the hair cutter was a Republican who refused to cut her hair because of that.

I'd still side with the private businessman doing business with whomever he desires...

So it is okay for the Govner to dicriminate against gay people but not for a hair dresser to refuse service to said Govner. Okay haircuts for the Govner now costs $995.00 It's a smear against the Govner cus he don't want her biness? Gimme a break.

You're mixing two things in your premise. Whether said governor is lesbian or not is irrelevant. Discriminating against all people of a specific group is wrong. Refusing service to an individual who pisses you off for a specific reason unique for that person (for instance, a politician who voted a specific way on an issue, or a celebrity who said something idiotic on TV, or whatever), is the businessman's perogative.

Most of the time it's probably bad business, though.

You mean like the guy in Texas who offers classes for people to get concealed gun permits, but refuses to accept bussines from those of the Islamic faith?

It really is quite simple...if you advertise in ANY form (yes, this includes a phone book) you MUST provide the service regardless of whether you approve of their opinion or not. If however, you do not advertise in ANY form, you are allowed to refuse service.

It's his (or her) right and, depending on where the business is located, they'll make or lose business as a result. If they were smart, they knew they'd make money by taking a stance. If they lose business it was a dumb move.

But that is my cynical view. Maybe, like Liar said, they're taking a position on dipshit politics.

Ohhhh yeah that's right I forgot it's only discrimination when it's a Conservative doing it to a Liberal. The fucking hypocrisy never ends.

Take her business elsewhere and find a way to screw the fuck out of his business. Revenge is best served cold fucker. :D

When is the last time you had a haircut?

Oh.

Never mind.

You are a bastard sir.

My first inclination was no it is his business to tell her to fuck off. But it is somewhat discriminatory. If the tables were turned the fucking ACLU would be all over it. She should just go to a non sign waving hair stylist.
