we're looking for a apartment we've looked at a few places and i don't think i really know what im looking for

i know what i dont like

we went and saw some apartments and the amenities were very nice it had a gym and a pool but they were converted from offices and the actual flat had no life to it ... it felt like they just made a home using partitions

i agree with that i dont think im that fussy ... but this was meant to be a nice apartment and it was quite expensive

it just felt way too boxy and fake ... lisa didn't like it either

personally a place that is easily wheelchair accessable or can be made to be.
mm nice big windows. I love to look outside.. especially with a nice view.
One story house. 2 bed rooms. nice living room. large bathroom.
hmmmm....
and very insolated LOL
where I live is NOT.
mom's bf heard me and my bf from upstairs :(

A nice kitchen I have a family so I cook everyday and HATE to be trapped in a small kitchen. Also natural lighting,is there enough electrical outlets that there won't be extension cords all over hells half acre. If you will be sharing the bathroom with a SO then its nice to have some room for both your things. Everything else can more less be decorated or dealt with. :nana:

Ive probably lived in a hundred apartments in my life cause I move around so much. Got to have some space. I learned that the hard way after letting a one bedroom flat that was very small and we thought we would be fine but now we drive eachother wonky.

Get plenty of space.
If you can avoid carpet, do so. It is a pain in the backside to keep clean.
Don't go for all the amenities unless you are really going to use them. I used to have a spa, gym, pool, tennis, all that and I never really used it. You can join a fitness gym instead and it will be cheaper.

We are shopping around to buy a house now. We have a small cottage and we own a bed and breakfast that is our main business but the cottage doesn't suit us so we want to start letting it as a holiday house.

Now I am rambling about. Sorry:rolleyes:

no its great thank you :)

hearing other peoples ramblings gives me ideas and helps me sort out what i want

thanks for your posts all

One more advice-
make sure that wherever you live, you know your tenants rights. Its more important than you think. A friend of mine has to move this month because her building's price went up double with no warning at all.

If I were looking for an apartment?

Top or bottom floor. Corner apartment. Minimizes the # of walls/ceilings/floors you share with people. A balcony or nice courtyard/pulic area. At least one more bedroom than you think you need.

Its all about the area. You can have a nice house in a shit area. We get drug deals going down on our back alley that we share with other houses.

Last year I was walking home after a night out and asked if i 'wanted some business'

errrr no.

*insert lame-ass joke about wanting a sexy girl in a new house here*

I live where it rains. I want windows so when the sun shines in the winter I get some of it. I like to have trees so I have shade for the summer. I like old, with high ceilings and creaky floors. I like fireplaces and built in bookcases. I like nooks and crannies.

Examine your neighbors. They can make or break a place. Definitely agree about the carpet. You don't want that. Bare floors are easier to keep clean, and you can always buy a rug later.

Shared driveways suck, but that's not really applicable to an apartment. If we had known we would have to share, we might not have taken this house.

Check the water heaters. That's a vital thing. Nothing worse than a fluctuating shower, or a water heater that just doesn't heat the water. :(

You should have your bedroom facing the back. For some reason, most places put the main bedroom facing the street. This is stupid and sucks. Who the heck wants to hear their neighbors noisy vehicles?

Check the surroundings at different times of day and different days of the week. What seems idyllic at noon, might be a friggin nightmare at quitting time!

Forgot one thing ya might wanna do....cruise the intended new neighborhood late at night on the wknds or even on wkdays or both like April said great day doesn't mean for sure its all peace and quiet come night time and god knows don't wanna see flashing lights in your living room everynight from the cops or hear "make way for the emergency vehicle" 5 times a day and night :nana:

If you have a car, don't just cruise the neighborhood, park your car and see what happens. This goes for anyone.

thanks some great suggestions there and i agree about the checking out the neighbours :)

not sure about spare room ... not sure if we want people staying :p

Spare rooms are wonderful things. You can use it as a store room, a junk closet, or a library/computer room. *ahem* :D

lol i just dont want my sister staying over after shes been out late :)

Hi SG :)

If I was looking for a place in London(which I will be soon, by the looks of things) then I'd definitely examine the location very carefully. Anywhere in Zone 1 would be pretty much guaranteed to hold its value, but if you're looking for a place further out then make sure it's in a decent area which will be able to keep its status!

Location, Location, Location. Always want shopping reasonably and "entertainment"close by, things like movies, theater and pubs (watching drug dealers does not count as entertainment).

Something my little sister discovered by accident when apt. hunting...

You can call the local police department and find out how often they're called to certain areas, and what those calls related to. Good info to have.
