I do have a question though. And it will show how much I do NOT know about the subject. Sometime lesbian couples look like two "normal" women. You'd never know they were a couple. But sometimes, one of the women in a pair looks just like a man. Very short hair, no makeup, very masculine mannerisms and ways of dressing. Even low voices sometimes. If you're attracted to a woman who looks so much like a man, why aren't you attracted to a real man?

Not taking into account religion, morals, common decency and such, let's talk about nature. The only reason animals come together is to couple, to breed, to make the young. Anything that goes against this instinct to breed is inherently wrong, barring accidents that affect one or the others reproductive organs. Putting two animals together of the same sex will NOT produce young, will NOT result in the instinctual urge to reproduce.

There is a lot of evidence of same-sex pairing in the animal kingdom. Homosexual and bisexual behaviors have been identified in animals from chimps to mule deer to ostriches. In fact, bonobo chimpanzees are almost entirely bisexual animals. They couple with each other regardless of sex.

For more information, you may want to try reading Biological Exhuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, by Bruce Bagemihl, Ph.D. It's a very balanced analysis of sexual behavior within the animal kingdom, and the evidence points to the conclusion that sexuality in the animal kingdom (including ourselves) is MUCH more complicated in nature than fundamentalists would like to believe.

Suppose they do discover that homosexuality has biological roots. How can you honestly feel disgust and loathing for a person because of how they were born, for a trait that they had no control over? Wouldn't that be like hating a person for their skin color? For their height?

That said, no one says you have to like gays. No one says you have to like Blacks. I'm sure intolerant people have made comments about your relationship with FG. My dad's wife thinks interracial marriages are "an unnatural mixin' " and "an abomination before God". In the United States of America, you're free to be as intolerant as you please. But no matter what how personally taste/distaste, they have the right to live their lives as they please. You and FG have the right to live & love, no matter what my dad's wife says. So do gays & lesbians, no matter what you say.

I believe that homosexuality IS biological. There have been countless twin studies reinforcing this. Some studies, where identical twins were separated at birth, showed a 100% correspondence of sexual orientation between the two twins, no matter what their childhood was like. Finding the exact factor that marks homosexuality has so far been inconclusive, but this research is only beginning.

Ambro's argument is that all life is aimed toward reproducing, and any individual that does not strive to reproduce is unnatural. Well, this is completely incorrect. There are many examples in the animal kingdom of individuals never reproducing, never choosing to reproduce, and still being part of the natural order. Usually these individuals are "helpers", who never have children themselves, but instead devote their lives to raising their relatives' offspring. This is still a viable strategy for reproducing, because their genes are still passed on. Some scientists suggest that human homosexuals originated as helpers. I find this theory the most likely one, because human females, more than any other animal, require assistance to raise their children. The presence of other human helpers has already been proved, for example, grandmothers. Women live long past their reproductive periods only to care for their children's children. By Ambro's argument, old women should be dead as soon as they hit menopause because they aren't reproducing. Yet they live an average 30 years longer.

There's my science bit. I was going to go into why I don't believe non-human animals are truly homosexual, but I'm lazy tonight, and that's really complicated and rather off topic.

The reason some women are attracted to other women with styles you consider masculine is the same reason some women like very thin men, or very large men, or black men, or Asian men or "rugged" guys, or "bad boy" types. It's just a style, you may be attracted to it or not, but saying, "why not just get a real man" is wrong. A "butch" woman is not a man, she is a woman, with a masculine style of dressing or walking or talking, as defined by our society right now, but she is a woman.

i am very secure with my feelings and my sexuality especially now that ive found my girlfriend ... however i thought this would be a nice place to ask ... there are times when you see people look at you and you wonder what they are thinking ... its easy to tell when they shout abuse this post is getting very long with all the quotes too but theres a story i'd like to tell you quickly


i was at the park with my girlfriend and we had been holding hands and hugging and giggling together i guess its pretty obvious we're a couple although we dont force it into peoples faces ... anyway a young boy was playing with his football and he kicked it over nearby to us when he came over he asked if we were a lesbians ... i was surprised abit that he understood what that meant he was only about 7 or 8 ... i said yes and he started to chat alittle with us he asked if we liked football and which team we liked (was no talk of lesbianism) ... but after a few moments his mother came over and pulled him by his arm away from us she gave us the most horrible look i guess i can never know what she was thinking but i have a pretty good idea it was something close to how a ambrosious thinks of me ... when the mother was gone my girlfriend just laughed i sighed and fell backwards some she hugged me tight and said that really upset you didnt it ... i said nothing but she knew and she kept holding me

It's an old game...

...to say that humans should somehow behave in a manner appropriate to their "biological" roots, but frankly our existence today usurps all that.

It always seems that talk of gay or lesbians boils down to sex, but being close friends with a number of couples convinces me that it is much more than that. Two people can fall in love with one another for an infinite number of reasons and sexual orientation may be part of it, but it isn't the whole story. I think that anybody who finds someone to share their life with, their joys, their aches, their hopes, and their goals is lucky indeed.

It isn't black and white, either or, right or wrong. Sometimes there is a sexual attraction to the same sex by someone who prefers a long-term heterosexual relationship. Sometimes the issue of sexual orientation is completely secondary to other considerations and a woman may choose to live with another woman for a spell and then, as relationships do dwindle, choose a man for the same reasons.

I'm fortunate to live where it isn't as hot an issue as it is in the US and I find that for most people one's sexual orientation just isn't important.
