Everyday I am amazed by the sheer number of new stories Lit posts and it got me wondering: where do all these writers come from and what did they do before Lit?

Did Lit (or even internet publishing for that matter) create a new breed of writer or did it simply emerge to absorb a vast surplus of unpublished material already out there looking for a home. Did we create it or did it create us?

I think the answer may be found - as most answers usually are - somewhere in between.

As for myself, I had tinkered with writing since high school and continued on through college but without an audience for my work (amateur, at best), the desire to create sputtered. It was not until I discovered Lit that this urge to write returned. Six months and four submissions later, the passion only continues to intensify.

How about you?

I made up stories and wrote all growing up and through high school. During college I just wrote academic stuff. About 10 months ago I was shown lit and wrote something just to try it out...and about 20 submissions later, my need to write has been reawakened

I wrote a few short stories in middle school - that was ages ago. after reading on lit for 2 yrs i started writing - lit made me what i am <sues for millions>

My story is similar to DN's.

And I write the type of stories I'd like to see more of at Lit. Romantic, consent, interracial, clean language, strong women who go after the men they want...

What prompted me to start writing.

I started to write on an impulse three years ago. I had never written anything before.
I had been reading some erotic stories on ASSM and I just thought I could do better.
I had no intention to go public with my one story; it was written solely for my own interest. But just as I was finishing it, I discovered Literotica and I decided to take a chance and submit it for posting.

For myself, I have been an avid reader all of my life. I enjoy reading erotic fiction, but it wasn't always easily available through mainstream outlets. Before I had an Internet connection I used to acquire the occasional erotic short story collection from vendors of freeware, shareware, etc. Almost without exception these stories were plain bad.

I thought to myself, 'I can do better than that', so I tried. And I think to a certain extent I succeeded, as the reaction to my efforts on Literotica have been generally favourable. I enjoy writing, so I'll probably continue. Maybe one day I'll start that novel...

Lit created TheEarl. I wrote at school: some creative writing exercises and a couple of 3 to 4 page story's set to a particular title, but I didn't think I could actually write.

I read Lit. I read the stories. And I thought: I could do that. And it turned out I could. And now I'm writing a novel. Which I wouldn't have had the bollocks to do before this.

The story of my writing and the story of my life are very similar - it takes an outside influence to give me confidence and to give me a kick in the arse. Lit was that influence. Until I started writing here, I've been writing the same novel for the last decade. I never really developed the habit of writing as much as I wanted to, or the confidence to show anyone, until I found lit.

I was writing, but I needed to write other things, other forms. I needed an outlet. Lit has become that outlet. As I try to write more, I grow more confident in my abilities. It becomes easier and easier to write everyday. And my vocabulary gain used in my everyday life is off-the-charts!

I'm a sometimes freelance writer and I was working something that was giving me fits. As a way to get away from it, I started my first erotic story, mainly because it was the complete opposite of what I was supposed to be writing. I really had no intention of posting it anywhere, but then one day I thought, "What the hell." and put it up.

The work I get paid for is very structured, very limited creatively and erotica is a way for me to explore other styles of writing. That's why I'm kind of all over the place with the type of stories I write.

As for Literotica, it was the first place I'd ever really read net erotica, but one of the last places I posted because I really didn't think my stuff was a good fit here because of it's length and limited sexual appeal. A friend convinced me otherwise and I'm glad he did.

Hot Chocolate!

It started with an email..... ;)

Been creative for hundreds of centuries in all manner of odd ways. A friend, who happens to have a Masters in Psychology, suggested I write for Lit... Hmm maybe I should have thought about that a little bit more ;)

all too familiar

I would never have written my stories without Lit's existence. I would never have read erotica without Lit's existence. I am one of the "never go into one of those stores" people. The anonymity and convenience were too tempting to resist.

Ever since I was a kid.........

wanted to be a writer. (And no, I'm not claiming that I am...yet).

As a kid, I used to create my own comic books. I'd draw pictures and then create a story line around them. As I got older I began writing short stories for friends. They seemed to like them, so soon I was taking requests. Writing fictional stories about people I knew, simply based on who they were and what I thought they might one day become. Wish I still had a few of those, might be interesting to see how close I came.

Later....I created my own fantasy scenarios, much like Dungeons & Dragons today. I attempted my first book when I was in my early teens, had one or two articles published in a local newspaper and eventually began writing erotic short stories for my wife. One of those I submitted for publication in a men's magazine and was surprised when they wrote back to tell me they liked it and were considering it. (No they never did due to other articles & stories taking precedence). But it was a start.

My first story on Literotica was "A Night to remember". And yeah, it shows my early-on errors and lack of knowledge and experience.

Now...I use that as a reminder to tell myself how much I've hopefully grown, improved. But more importantly, how much fun I'm having just writing stories here on Lit that several people seem to enjoy reading.

Hopefully they will continue to do so. And hopefully, I'll continue to improve towards actually becoming a writer.

I remain,

I've been writing in one way or another for as long as I can remember. Writing erotica started as a dare from a friend and became something I really liked. I stumbled across Lit by accident, I can't even remember exactly how I found it but I'm glad I did. I had, until Lit, only shown my writing to that friend and she had encouraged me to find someplace to publish in some form. Lit has definately been a blessing, Lit and the help from the members have improved my writing tremendously.

I started writing erotica a few years ago to direct my sexual energy to something creative, if that doesn't sound too pretentious. My first being a story called 'Bronwen's Realm' Bronwen was a super-erotic woman, bi-sexual, exhibitionist, masturbator(she considered masturbation an art form!) etc.In other words my ideal fantasy woman! That story was overlong self indulgent and immature and I've withdrawn it from the website(not this one) but I'm trying to re-write it or take a theme out of it and make it stand alone. but since I've written more and better stories(I think) and continue as the mood strikes, which is quite intermittent.

I've had a desire to create for as long as I can remember. So great that it overshadows everything else I do.

When I was 13 I started writing a sci-fi novell and 10 years on it's still in progress, and it's changed shape so many times - it outgrew its immature beginnings, blossomed into something that is both an original story and a copy of many others at the same time.

I don't think it's original enough to publish but I'd love to finish it this year. I find that I can't write in the winter at all tho so it's taken a back seat while I work on shorter things.

I wrote a few erotic scenes out of a desire to write my fantasies down, to make them more real. Nothing of that era is worth posting anywhere but it was an important part of the learning curve.

I found lit by accident and it's become one of my favourite sites. After reading a mixture of truly brilliant and really awful stuff (both on Lit and elsewhere) I decided I should give it a try, now I've got three works started and lots more planned. Unfortunately everything I do becomes an epic and will probably end up in the 'novella' section rather than the dedicated sections.

Quesla here: I was very good at creative writing and arts in high school. It wasn't until I went blind from my diabetes that writing became an entertainment and now a hope to get brave and confident enough on the net to write and be seen by the rest of the world. Before I submit, I need to get my ms word and JAWS working together with xp and then get some of those scrawling and meandering 3 & a half floppy files organized into some semblance of a manuscript for an editor to peruse! I hope that e-mail addis are allowed, my own, on the boards I do beg pardon and hope that someone will come a knocking on my private door isf it isnt and come a knocking even so, just to to talk and keep company!

And yet another . . . .

Any particular reason for pulling up old threads, Quesla?
