I have been successfully publishing a multi-chapter tale. When I started publishing, I knew I was was going to wander through many different categories, and wanted a consistant audience so they could find the new chapters as they were slowly published. So I chose Novels and Novellas as my category. Time passes. Lit adds the series feature to make it easier to find serialized stories. I also come to realize N/N is a bit of backwater category. Last time I published, I was super lucky, and got an ideal placement. I was one of the first stories listed, and the days that followed were slow enough I was on the 'new' page for three days. But even with this great placement, I just didn't get the reads I would like to see. I enviously look at even mid-tier volume categories, and people there get view counts in a couple days that are multiples of what I am getting in a year in N/N.
I am pondering publishing my next chapter in Group Sex. As an individual chapter, that is its natural home. Both major sex scenes are clearly GS. And with the series feature, people will be able find my other stories. I am thinking of making the experiment and seeing how well I do publishing in the more well read section. I should do well, but we will see.
I have a couple of questions:
- Is there anything I am missing that would say that publishing a 5th chapter of a tale in GS that has the first four chapters in N/N is a bad idea?
- Each category has its own culture. I don't suspect GS to be as complex as LW or I/T, but is there any local issues I should be aware of?
