The American Revolution saw a group of farmers, small business owners, and men with families who took it upon themselves to resist the most powerful nation of their time, and to put their lives and their livelihoods on the line for the value of freedom. The official death toal of American patriots in that action is listed as 25,435. The suffering of many many more was the result of their committment, from Freezing cold at Valley Forge, to having their homes burned, wounds they lived with, and the loss of their businesses and fortunes as outcomes.
How many now even value freedom enough to speak up, much less to suffer, and even further to risk their lives for the sake of freedom. They would be ashamed of the generation now.
