I just went through the latest issue of my favorite metal music magazine, Deaf Forever (after the Motörhead song) and added the following to my list of stuff to buy:

Blue Öyster Cult - The Symbol Remains: It only took them 19 years to get a new album done. Heard three songs so far and immediately ordered the record. The last Kansas was a surprise, this one will be fucking awesome.

Benediction - Scripture: Old-School Uk Death Metal. Just what the doctor ordered.

Wytch Hazel - III: Pentecost: I have no idea why these guys went past me thus far, because their hard rock/early metal thing ticks a lot of boxes for me. Had the pleasure of hearing two of their new songs and I'm hooked. Might want to go back and get the other two albums.

Enslaved - Utgard: Yup, about time.

Them - Return to Hemmersmoor: I've always written them off as a King Diamond clone, but the review said only the vocals hint at their influences. Don't get me wrong - I love the King and don't mind if others worship his style, so Them have my attention either way.

Edit: Huh, completely forgot Necrophobic's Dawn of the Damned album. The perfect blend of blunt force trauma and razorblade melodies. Fuck yeah!

For my fellow music and prog nerds - there will be both a new (and maybe last) Fates Warning album (Long Day Good Night) and yet another Neal Morse mass. Thought you might want to know.

Been near tears since I found out about Eddie. I'm of that age where every song represents a period or instance in my life. Memories have been flooding back today as the local radio station devoted their channel to nothing but Van Halen all afternoon. Even writing this I am choking up.
We've lost a lot of great talent over the last few years but this one hurts me the most. Like radio hosts, we invite them into our homes by listening and buying their music, somehow anonymously making them part of the family. They never really know but they have a huge impact of our lives.

2020 is really fucking things up.

Gonna miss you and your magic fingers, EVH. Rest in peace.

Lovely stuff, what the cool kids and Manhattan sophisticates were listening to while Beatlemania happened somewhere else...

One very obvious thing regarding the new Ayreon: It's short. 74 minutes and change. There was no need for the 2CD treatment. Also, from a business standpoint, there were some headscratching moments too. For example - no lyrics in the base 2CD package. Why? Also, this is the first Ayreon album in 20-odd years which needs secondary literature to explain vital plot points. Without the comic book, important information like relationships between characters or how the main guy actually died won't get explained, which makes the narrator all the more baffling.

I agree - this album feels, if not forced, at least somewhat rushed. I'm not sure how much is the pandemic's fault. "The Source" felt more coherent and tighter.
