Re-reading "The man with the golden gun".

A completely different story than the film.

Banks' last Culture novel before he died. It's been sat in the pile next to the bed for months, finally started it last night. Damn shame there won't be any more. RIP Iain.

Harvest by Jim Crace. Exactly the kind of book I've been craving: atmospheric, dark, somewhat ambiguously set in time and location, and with a subtle message about today.

 I'll admit, I'm just waiting on my copy of 'What Happened'. I'm sure that won't elicit any reactions.

just finished up the 5th wave trilogy - https://media-assets.bookbub.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/191.jpg ... got through them pretty quickly on these past few cold, grey days. reminiscent of the hungergames but more because of the characters ages than the rest, and it's written in chapters of different characters perspectives.

about to start david weber/eric flint's 1633. not read its prequel, 1632, but it looks weird enough to be interesting: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/98/DavidWebberEricFlint_1633.jpg

The new Confederated Principalities of Europe - an alliance between Gustavus, King of Sweden, and the West Virginian town, led by Mike Stearns,
which was hauled back through time to the Thirty Years War - has big problems. As the greatest naval war in European history erupts....
we'll see if it's as funny and interesting as it looks.

The Le Carre is excellent, he was always at his best writing about the cold war stuff.

Has anyone read, "The Essex Serpent" by Sarah Perry. What did you think? I have been given conflicting views. Tend to respect the favourable assessment but would appreciate any responses.
