What are we all writing right now?

I'm writing about mermen, in the ocean. Maybe one of these days I'll make a Dragonball Z reference and put some giant crabs in there. I'd have to rewatch the Namek saga first though so I could make it a proper reference. 🤔

Currently working on Roma Aeterna, an alternate-history world where the Roman Empire never fell but evolved into a matriarchal technocracy. It’s part historical speculation, part character-driven drama, exploring faith, order, and desire in a society that worships light instead of gods. The project’s in a slow burn worldbuilding phase right now, but I’m moving toward more intimate, emotional narratives within that framework. I’ll start with a few short stories that reveal different facets of the world before I'll be diving into the larger arc. Or not, who knows.

It's been a minute since I've posted anything here in the forums...been a bit busy in RL... But what am I writing right now? I am deep into my second novel! My first, "Shoshana: The Path of the Apprentice" is currently in the hands of a professional editor, and after that should be ready for publishing. And I am 42k+ words into the sequel. Happily doing at minimum 10k+ word a week, while also working on stuff for the first book (getting cover art done, getting ready to start doing marketing...etc...) With any luck, Book two will be done before Book 1 is even published.

I'm writing something significantly longer than my minuscule first outing. It started off as a few lines in my head during a police interrogation. Now there's a theatre troupe, non-linear story telling, dramatic reveals, and as always romance.
There also seems to be forming a setting that might be conducive to loosely connected stand-alone quickies later.

I'm working up a new idea involving 'my' safe-cracker Jade attending a Vietnamese New Year's Eve party at a flash crime-lord's place in Sydney, and through an entertaining chain of circumstances blowing up the whole joint. Wondering how to most realistically include some scorching sex as part of the festivities, but I'm sure it will work out.

Doing the post-manuscript work on my finished book, which has been sitting at the ECO for 6 weeks now. I am 3 essays into the successor to the aforementioned doggerel, tentative title Rejected! Hilarious Essays Provided One Ignores The Stupid Opinions of Stupid Editors (Who Are Stupid).

This will feature a somewhat first for me, my foray into (science) fiction humor stories. I titled the story Attention! The Earth is in Immediate Crisis! Pay Attention if You Want to Live!

It is about people being told to pay attention. Because the earth is in crisis. Which they need to do, if they want to live. (Damn, I have a TALENT when it comes to writing a story synopsis!). Any SF fans? Wanna review? It's only ~3,000 words.

Poetry, it's a difficult concept; if one must rhyme, I find it hard. If it doesn't need to, it doesn't seem like poverty.
The only part of poetry class I excelled in was the not rhyming one. I couldn't get the hang of making the rhymes flow, on the other hand, none of my classmates could seem to hit the right beats when writing without rhymes. 🤷‍♀️People are just different.

A starving poet succeeds,
then bites the hand that feeds.
Her adoring fanbase grows:
she turns to non-rhyming prose.
"I'm poor no more," she cries,
"suck it up!" and then walks away as her legend dies swinging her sexy thighs feeling very happy indeed.

You guys could borrow a word from another language for it, but then you might want to pepper in other words from the same language throughout the poem.

I have two WIP's that are of recent vintage:

1) A SF piece that starts as Alien Invasion and is transitioning to Long Space Journey. It will revert to military again at the end of the long journey. So far, no sex. Thats throwing me a little bit...

2) What started as a mind control piece where the FMC can inflame the desire of a single male person to a level that is dangerous. It has turned into a bit of Urban Fantasy as I have gone on. I originally started it because I had a memory of a coffee house near SDSU that I used to frequent and wanted to wite it into a story.
