We've become a forum of library ushers, and little else.

The library has pretty much ended discussion here. Yes, it's true that most topics have been covered multiple times. It's even rare to see a unique fluff thread. But it has to be discouraging for any new voices to raise a question or topic and not be bombarded with 8 links of "We've done that already."

Yes, most everything has been discussed here. More than once. Old threads are resurrected as if to say, "See we like to talk about things here, in the past."

We've become a forum of library ushers, and little else. And I put the blame squarely on the "library mentality." The was plenty of redundancy long before the library was compiled.

You can't attract new voices and opinions by living in the past.

I don't think that's true of the majority in the least bit.

But I do agree that there is a lean towards offering the library or previous threads as the only way to discuss, and personally, I'm largely disinterested in reading thirty pages of fluff and old discussion when I can hear from the people currently populating the board instead.

But I am not one of those who only posts links or rejoinders to read the Library, personally. It's there to be used, and is a useful resource, but this is a discussion forum, and I like seeing discussion. ;)

I'm outing you, dollbaby.

You're nothing but a shit stirrer!

(It's one of your endearing qualities, however.)

I guess you didn't see my vaginas v. womens faces thread.

I agree, I have now become afraid to ask anything for fear of being said "We've talked about that before"....

I've never said that. As I said in another thread, most of us will simply not post to something we have posted to a kazillion times.

And of course, nothing stops anyone from sending a PM to someone and asking a question, privately. For the exception of 2 people in my entire time at this forum, I have only twice been not answered when I asked for or offered someone information in PM. (Once just a couple of weeks ago by a "newbie," as a matter of fact. I don't forget snubs like that.)

No I didn't see that one. I don't stop by much more over here, except for coffee at the cafe. I might have posted to that one.

Vaginas v. faces goes back to when we began walking on two legs rather than four. Face to face became more important then rear entry. And lips have evoloved to become more vagina-like. Hence, the use of lipstick to highlight lips.

Yes, and I'm sure you aren't the only one who feels that way. And I wouldn't be surprised if I haven't referred someone to the library once or twice.

But I think bumping up a two year old thread limits the conversation more than starting fresh. Being scolded like a child to go the library and shut up is enough to discourage any new poster.

Well, I DID check the library for shit stirring before I posted.

Now I'm curious if there was anything there about it. ;)

And as we can see from YinandYang's disenchantment with the forum after an old vs. new threads argument, it does drive people away.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Enjoy your new GB.

I think why not a balance of "library" and new opinions...Does it have to be one or the other? I mean there are some topics that are just groaners for some of us here, but like everything else, there are always new folks coming and rather than shoot them off, we could answer and say hey, here is what we think and oh, by the way, we have more info here too.

We don't have to be sugar sweet or anything, but yes, 1001 threads on how do you spank does get old.

I would suggest a small change in the language of the Sticky. From:

If you are seeking information and interesting reading of past threads and topics relevant to the practice of BDSM, please visit our extensive BDSM Library where many an hour can be passed without noticing the minutes flying by.

To:

LISTEN MUTHERFUCKERS. READ, STUDY, AND MEMORIZE THE FUCKING LIBRARY. IF YOUR TOPIC HAS BEEN DISCUSSED BEFORE THEN DO US A FAVOR AND GO AWAY.

Yes, but is it hard to pass by threads that don't hold any interest to you? Like the entire strap-on family is to me.

The opening of a thread is a voluntary act.

And I like spanking threads! :nana:

Me too. It would be much nicer if it were phrased, "Thank you for bringing up this topic for some more current discussion. If you'd also like read what's been said previously.............."

Many of us come here for dialogue with those present, though it's also nice to see what was said before. I'm sure I have no threads to start at all that haven't been started already at one time or another.

Hi.

There a problem?

If you had read what I already have had to say on this issue before the advent of this thread you would know that is an incorrect interpretation of what I have in the sticky WD....and have you failed to notice I have clearly stated 'past threads'? It was worded as I intended because we hear often how long posters have lurked before feeling comfortable in posting or asking questions....any wonder why?!! Also I am sure if you read the whole sticky you will have read this part;

"It is also hoped people who are seriously seeking answers to specific questions they may have, will feel comfortable in putting those questions to the forum for feedback. It may be difficult at times to put yourself out there, you may feel it is an irrelevant question to others, but please be assured, if you are asking it someone else is likely to also be seeking the same. You will find most on the forum will treat the questions seriously and offer to share their experiences.....respect those experiences may not always provide the answer you would hope for, nor may they mirror your own, but are usually a response in good faith. It is also asked people do not feel they are not welcome because they do not have enough experience, or the 'right' experience. We all had to start somewhere, we are all at various stages of our own journey....some of those journeys will share a lot of similarities, others will not."

Nowhere have I suggested there should be a choice made to read the library in preference to creating new threads. As malcah_ms says, and I have already said earlier, there is room and value in both the old and new threads.

LOL WD -- okay okay, I like spanking threads too -- but sure, you don't HAVE to open a thread you don't like. :) Although curiousity always gets the better of me. :) :p
