Were you nervous the first time you....

No.

I had been flogged enough and had observed flogging often enough to have a good sense for some technique.

Alos, for me who is very new to activities such as flogging, I move progressively, watching her reaction as I go.

I may be off base here, but a flogger is essentially very safe as a striking instrument unless you strike parts of the body with a lot of power that would be unsafe under any circumstances i.e. the head.

Yes

I've never been part of any sort of society, so I was just playing it by ear. Plus those things are damn hard to aim for a novice. On my second or third shot I missed her (whiffing over her back). She laughed and then I suddenly I was much less concerned.

Yes yes yes,

Starting a scene still scares me, stage fright and the weight of responsibliity. It soon passes as we warm up.

incidentaly it is spooky waiting for the first strike too

It seems to me that it would be difficult to cause permanent injury. Am I wrong?

Yes you are
Depending on the TYPE of flogger and where/how you struck you could do serious damage
There's a whole RANGE of floggers
I have ones I can go whole hog with and barely tickle, but I have others that would cut skin or are made of materials that, applied improperly, could cause deep tissue bruising
And some of my big ones are heavy enough to bruise a kidney if I hit wrong or do spinal damage if I swing them full force in the wrong spot
When I got started in this "biz", I was luckky that my main mentor, Dracontias, also happened to be a medical profession, so when she taught me about this stuff she went in to all the health and safety issues
I had to study, learn, and observe before I flogged, and when I did it was with a super-light flogger on a subbie who'd had "Yes" and "No" areas marked on her with makeup :D
So I wasn't that nervous :D

I'd recommend practicing hitting something other than a person until you can consistently hit what you are aiming at. Standing inside a doorway and doing figure 8s without hitting the door frame will help too. Once you get accurate it's just a matter of learning what is off limits.

I practiced on a pillow then a teddy bear to learn aiming :D

The answer is...

No.

Excited. Thrilled. Pleased. Curious. Controlled. Expectant. Yes.

Nervous? No.

Impact tremor or shock wave ... think of poor aim, or repetitive strikes to an area not designed for it.

Medieval weaponry designs changed to blunt/impact when armor became more effective at turning a blade's edge. Imagine coming out of a carapace with not a drop of blood spilled, yet still covered in bruises ... until some bright individual married gunpowder with a sling's bullet.

And all you submissives that just wet your seats at the thought of bruises ...

Yes......i was asked my Master to flog my sister because He wanted to look into her eyes and see her reaction and expression. Knowing how hard i like it, I was nervous to flog her for fear i might hit her too hard.

Yours my dear dragonlace...
