in about 26 hours to pursue the wily Bambi through the forests of northern Nevada.

Since there are no computers going along, I will be out of touch completely for ten days to a fortnight.

Y'all are just going to have to answer your own questions for a couple of weeks. :p

You know, a girl ventures on to the GB for the first time in months and about has a heart attack seeing the title of this thread. Shame on you, WH! After that torrid meeting in late March, too. (wink wink) I have half a mind to break up with you.

Have a great trip, WH! (There are *forests* in northern Nevada?)

Yes, I know that there are others who have good answers, but I didn't tell people where I was going last month, and had at least two threads dedicated to finding out where I went or if I had died.

There are not only forests in northern Nevada, there are forests in Southern Nevada, less than an hours drive from Las Vegas!

The forest I'll be hunting in is high altitude lodgepole pines, juniper and aspen trees mostly. It will never be confused with the Amazon Rainforests, but it is a genuine forest. :p

I apologize for the provocative nature of the title, but at least everyone is looking to see why I'm leaving. :D

Damit! i'm turning green!

my deer hunting looks to be screwed this year due to no fault of my own.

Good luck and happy hunting WH and may you always shoot striaght.

Nor will it be confused with Orygun, or anywhere else that has *real*trees, but... I've been there. Lived in the high desert for many, many years. Have a great time. Pet a Bambi for all of us. (I have a great recipe for Venison Stew if you need one...!)

There's more to Oregon than the rainforest west of the skyline trail.

This area (north and west of Elko, NV) is very much like the lodgepole pine forests in eastern Oregon, near Bend and Lapine and along the Deschutes river.

thats sounds wonderful i hope you have a great time ... lisa still meant to take me camping sometime ... getting bit too cold and rainy though at moment think will wait till next year :)

Well that was a jolt. But as long as you come back to us and share pictures of the loveliness of nature.

Not the gutting part. Ain't lovely.

Have a sper trip. Will try not to drive others crazy with silly questions.

Though that isn't a promise.

ahhhh...the battle of the beauty and the beast huh? lOL

have a safe and enjoyable outing WH
hope you find something with a nice pair of racks!

see you on your return.

ummm..so who do we see for answers while you are away?

Well, considering two-thirds of Orygun is high desert, of which most of that is part of the same Great Basin desert that makes up much of Nevaduh, I think it is easy to confuse large parts of Orygun with Nevaduh.

I no longer really care to hunt deer - I was raised on venison steak and I got tired of it real quick, never really liked it. Elk roast - now there is something that I could eat every day. But those wiley Wapiti always elude me. One of these days.

So, on a related question; how many Lit members are horrified at the barbaric practice of us men (and probably some women here too) going out and wandering through the woods, shooting at everything that moves, killing poor defenseless wild animals, then skinning and butchering them for our carnivorous appetites?

Or do you really understand that we often don't even get a single shot off, that we like communing with nature, and that killing our own meat is probably more "honest" than going to the local McDonalds and ordering a Big Mac?

Yep - my favorite part of the USA; the Deschutes river from south of Sun River north along the east side of the Cascades. Beautiful, sunny 265 days out of the year, huge lodgepole pines with very little undergrowth, skiing in the winter (although it can get a bit cold), rock climbing, boating, rafting, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and some of the best motorcycling twisties in the NW (try McKenzie pass sometime). And of course, the llamas:

Bump for the Thursday evening crowd. I'm leaving in about another two hours, so y'all behave while I'm gone.

have a great trip....will leave a breadcrumb trail so you find your way home:) :) :)

Nasty trick to play, Harold!

But I'm glad to know we're not actually losing you.

Have a good trip. I can't believe you're going out to kill things. Blah, blah, blah.

If you must kill Bambi, are you going to make us all some venison jerky for the gathering in the spring? Yum...

:p

Happy hunting Harold, and be careful...there are some loonies out there who like to think they are the mighty hunter.
